Should calf kicks become an illegal strike?

I honestly thought I was entering a troll thread when I clicked on it. Extremely disappointed to find out that wasn't the case.

Keyboard warriors who have never even trained a day in their lives scolding pro fighters "Why don't they just check em eh?". Yeah it's so easy. Just check them and it's over with.
sayin that is still better than wanting it banned

I think anyone saying either of those things should take a fully powered calf kick from a pro fighter. Show them how easy it is to just check em.

Fuck that. We are going to see a resurgence of the karate style movement, because boxers are too fucking static to defend against calf kicks.
Thats like saying we should ban jabs and straights, because they are too popular.
Exactly.

This thread is like boxers ....
<Waaah>

its like telling someone to "learn to defend strikes to the back of the head by never being on your stomach"..... all it takes is 1 calf kick if it hits the nerve and u seen fights like Omalley and Conor, and Holloway, and other fighters simply lose because of a nerve damage something they cant really control

Yes yes, Conor got KO'ed i can already feel the trolls turning red, im just saying calf kicks are becoming an epidemic that really has no counter
front leg teep is the counter

more to the shin, ppl have to take week+ off if they get kicked to the calf just one time in practice... this was mentioned during the broadcast tonight thats how stupid this kick is.... 1 strike can take a guy out for a week of practice because it hit a nerve.....
What does "more to the chin" mean?

From Wikipedia: "A low kick (also known as a leg kick) is a kick in which the attacker uses their to strike the opponent's lower body (thigh or calf) with the shinbone or foot. This type of kick, under different names, is utilized in numerous full-contact martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, kūdō, kickboxing, lethwei, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_kick

Fighters need to learn to check em, if someone checks a calf kick and their leg breaks Anderson Silva style that shit would stop quick.
Oh yeah? They gonna jump down to knee it?

lmao you sound like you don’t understand the mechanics of a calf kick.

It's not because we think they are too damaging, but they are easy to just spam and spam and spam and spam. It's almost like a cheat. As if a fighter could throw a strike that can't be stopped. It's boring.
Muay Thai fighters have dealt with them since forever. If flatfooted MMA fighters can't, it's on them and not the one kicking.

Make the kicker pay. Also bring back soccer kicks and stomps. Make the wrestler pay. If somebody shoots in on me, then it's my god-given right to drop my knee into the back of his head. Tit for tat. Tit for tat is an English saying meaning "equivalent retaliation". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tit_for_tat

Ban everything that isn't just punching and kicking each other in the face.

I have been thinking about this and I think we should ban punching and kicking to the face too.
Nobody want to see that

If you couldn't counter/prevent them from doing massive damage they'd be a bigger factor in MT.
Fighters just need to adapt their game, it mainly has to do with the low and often pretty wide stances that make you more vulnerable to this kind of kicks.

This is like banning karate when ppl couldn't figure machida out.
And he was considered by many to be a LOT m ok re boring than calf kicks. Speaking of "boring" a lot of viewers hate the grappling and ground aspect. Why not just give them 10 seconds to find a submission otherwise STAND EM UP REFFFFF!!!

I really don’t want things to turn into the ultimate calf kicking contest..... but it is what it is

calf kicks are the best thing to happen to mma in a long time it makes fights end in finishes more often,

I think the difference between allowed and not should be damage during the fight over lasting injuries.

Like the knee teep puts people in surgery or sidelines them, potentially. Kick the knee back, won't slow you down unless it hyperextends badly and that's that for the next year's schedule. There are plenty of other techniques to hinder footwork or damage that area enough for a stoppage. This is why it's (rightfully) banned in some kickboxing competitions. Both adult and youth.

While the calf kick, or really any low kick, is for the purpose of damaging the opponent during the fight.
