No Spoilers Official Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Discussion

I played to start of NG+++ and loved it too; have so many fun and challenging hours immersed in its world.

Above comment got me thinking on where I'd put this personally for 'best games ever' and – I hate to say it, I don't reckon Sekiro makes my personal top 10. Top 15? 20? Shoot, 11th? Yeah, I can see all of the above.

Thoughts from the crew? To recapitulate the sentiment: equally memorable and majestic game but in your personal history of gaming, 10 other titles exist in knocking it out of a top spot.

It's one of my favourites. Top 5 for sure. The biggest complaint many people have (and I share) is the lack of weapon variety which greatly diminishes replayability.

Nice. Hit me with your top 5, brother. Would love to hear.

On WPN count for why it's not top, I'm inclined to disagree. I think proportionally on Bb, a title paper-thin enough on armour depth (and pre-OH, too WPNs) to have vainly birthed instead its own burgeoning fashion scene – and yet, it's my #2 for greatest journey of all-time.

Wish I could put a finger on it but…I don't know. Loving Okami and always fascinated by Sculptor, I might have felt otherwise a disconnect with some of the world and NPCs in a way that I hadn't in previous From titles. I just loved Fountainhead as well as Senpou Temple, for example. Truly majestic stuff. On the other hand, didn't really care much for Sunken Valley, Ashina's Castle, Outskirts, Depths nor Hirata Estate and that's a lot of the game. The combat mechanics alone are a large part why I enjoyed it so much, to add.

Love this game.
On NG+4 for no reason other than just because. Got all 4 endings and now just fucking around with mechanics.

Well they're mostly From games. Probably Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS1, Nioh 1, Elex, Skyrim and Fallout 3. I like them action RPGs. I know that's more than 5 but too bad. lol

I wonder if they'll make a sequel to Sekiro? To just do a one off and never touch the IP again would be really weird considering how successful it was so hopefully this isn't the end. Like you say, there are so many great aspects to the game that could be explored further.

for me its #2 in the genre after BB and before Nioh 1

Crazy how DS got us all into this and i'm sure most of us don't have any DS game in our top 3.

I'm also confident Sekiro would make top 10 all time gaming for me.

Just installed the Sekiro Resurrection mod.

Wish me luck.

Yeah upon giving it some thought i loved Sekiro but i don't think it's in my top 10 ever. Still an amazing game though, even if they could have done more with it.

- More memory stuff to the past, boss fights or even interacting/not interacting with certain past-matters that influence who and how you fight in the present.
- More mini boss variety, there's a few copies that serve no purpose other than to fill space.
- Make the secondary weapons more needed, i didn't use 90% of them.
- More optional, hidden boss fights like headless with great rewards
- Lady freaking Tomoe please!

I personally loved the game, but I agree with the majority here that it's not in my Top 10. However, the final boss battle was the best boss fight I've ever experienced and the way game teaches you (forces you) how to beat him was just brilliant. But the story felt hollow in a lot of ways. Personally, I enjoyed Nioh 1/2 more. It just allowed for more options, had just as good of a fighting system and the story had characters I enjoyed more.

I tried to go back to play Nioh after beating Sekiro and I found the combat system to be comical at best. I originally really enjoyed the combat in Nioh but not after playing Sekiro.

Yeah I think Nioh’s combat is obviously deeper but the mechanics of Sekiro are unmatched.

They're two completely different systems though. I loved Sekiro's parry system, but I also loved Nioh's awesome weapons, abilities and ninjitsu / onmyo items. The skill tree was fun and I highly enjoyed the gear grind. Although it did become too much later on.

What are your top 5? I may have seen a list of yours sometime on some thread but I dont recall.

Nice list. Im also the same when it comes to action RPGs, they usually litter my top 30 games of all time.

Id say DS1 is easily in my top 3 From games. No other game comes close to it in terms of just how interconnected the world is. The first time playing through it (properly) is an epiphany. Sekiro has my favourite combat system in an action game but even that's not as great as DS1 when it comes to the overall package.

Sorry for not responding sooner, Jo. Wanted to swing back when I had time.

Tough one always to answer but, for me, greatest of all time would be:
  1. Final Fantasy VI
  2. Bloodborne
  3. Uncharted 2
  4. Wild Hunt
  5. Shadow of the Colossus
So many truly memorable titles beyond above that I can't apply order to the nostalgia and amazingness that was Flashback, Golden Axe, Kid Chameleon, Secret of Evermore, Blasphemous, Dark Souls I, Hollow Knight… This is why I'd originally remarked Sekiro just can't nudge anything out of my top 5; competition for my top gaming experiences is too steep. Demanding duels like Isshin's set against a bluff of reeds or exploring Fountainhead for the first time will stay with me forever, though.

Hit me with your top 5, dude.

Bro Im rarely on nowadays, so no worries lol.

Your list is amazing dude, holy shit you got fantastic taste.

My top 5 is pretty standard, and honestly the top 5 revolves to the number 1 spot constantly [depending on the day].

1. The Last of Us
2. Bloodborne
3. RE4
4. Breathe of the Wild
5. Uncharted 2

On any given day I can say Bloodborne, RE4, TLOU, BotW is my fav game ever.

You just reminded me! Speaking of Bloodborne and Hollow Knight...

They weren't kidding with 'inspired by' but I've never heard of this – and I like what I see. Thanks, dude. Noted. As soon as protag started dual-wielding… in.gif

Yeah a lot of people are furious because in their eyes they've "stolen" the art style...

As a lover of Hollow Knight and its beautiful art style i couldn't be happier with how this game looks.

This is how you fucking play this game. Makes me wanna reinstall and do a ps5 playthrough
