A minimum of lounge discussion was political, and yet the lounge thread is the most popular.
Originally the idea was that all off topic discussion and flaming from threads would be in the lounge, but they took on a life of their own.
We don't want to exclude people, and we can't move the thread to Mayberry and still have political discussion. So that leaves the option of maybe not having lounge threads anymore, or implementing Mayberry rules on flaming.
I've already stated that I doubt people want OT rules, but it is an option.
I'd bail if it was OT rules. Just not my scene.

It's not just because of two posters, it's because the Lounge has become both more than it was intended to be, and also more problematic.

How about just letting it be known if you report someone in a Loung thread you get the dubs?

I like the Mayberry rules. OT seems like escalating the problem.

I don’t think most people want to use the OT. It destroyed itself and then festered to other subforums.
@Ruprecht , do you know if they’d take down a lounge thread in the plats? No one even posts there.

@Ruprecht, I like the Lesswrong guidelines, too:

Default commenting guidelines:
Aim to explain, not persuade. Write your true reasons for believing something, not what you think is most likely to persuade others. Try to offer concrete models, make predictions, and note what would change your mind.

. Make personal statements instead of statements that try to represent a group consensus (“I think X is wrong” vs. “X is generally frowned upon”). Avoid stereotypical arguments that will cause others to round you off to someone else they’ve encountered before. Tell people how you think about a topic, instead of repeating someone else’s arguments (e.g. “But Nick Bostrom says…”).

Get curious. If I disagree with someone, what might they be thinking; what are the moving parts of their beliefs? What model do I think they are running? Ask yourself - what about this topic do I not understand? What evidence could I get, or what evidence do I already have?

Obviously not enforceable, but it would be good if people kept them in mind.

I actually tried to get people posting here but people can’t seem to bookmark it and then don’t know how to get back
And you're the reason I bookmarked this place.

Makes sense keeping out of sight of the general public, still keeping the political flavor but not going full OT retard.

If only people could just behave themselves.

I'd think a Platinum lounge would be fine. At least I haven't heard otherwise. There might be other subforums that really don't want WR posters flooding in though.
