Rumored Canelo vs Bivol DAZN

I said a "less versatile golovkin" which is what he'll look like when Canelo fights him.
but he doesn't fight like golovkin and versatility isn't the differentiator

I don't think he fights that much like Khan either, but I suppose that's a better comparison than GGG.

Yeah, there’s not a perfect comp that I could think of besides Khan.

Both men rely on in-and-out movement and straight shots. Both have tremendous hand speed and good foot speed and are obviously well schooled in amateur style boxing.

And I think Bivol actually more conventional than the Khan that Canelo fought. By that point Khan had trained with some American coaches and at least tried to mix up his style. Bivol IMO is still very much an amateur style pro.

I think Canelo figures him out late, by either vicious KO counter shot or vicious KO setup by a body shot.

also even if you think he DOES fight like GGG, Golovkin (arguably already past his prime) fought Canelo to a hotly contested draw and a competitive decision loss. That's an admission right there that Bivol won't be easy for Nelo.

I don't think what Bivol does is a lot different than what Golovkin did against Lemieux.

Canelo will adjust to his jab and tear his body apart.

Golovkin is better. Proven against top competition. Bivol has beaten Smith and Barrera.

yeah I agree with this, maybe Arbachakov is a bit better of a comparison? I think Khan's issue was always that he wanted to spam combos and rely on his foot speed to get him out of exchanges but I don't think he was anywhere near as defensively responsible (or as consistent in his pacing) as Bivol seems to be.

Yeah I agree with this for sure, though I like how Bivol always seems to pluck KOs out of nowhere.

definitely possible. I'm actually leaning towards Bivol, I've been high on him for a little while and his competition looks better as time goes on. but I think it's a 50/50 fight. Not sure I see Nelo getting a stoppage though. He got one over a shot Kov, sure, but I don't think that means he's getting a bigger, healthier, more defensively responsible guy like Bivol. If he beats Bivol I'd expect a decision.

I honestly have never been impressed with him. I think he's one of those guys people assume is better than he is because he's not really fighting anyone who can test him.

Really??? I was there for the Lemieux fight live at MSG and I don't see Bivol fighting even like GGG did there, which was already kind of an outlier performance for GGG to begin with. Bivol is a lot lighter on his toes and frankly better defensively than GGG and I'd argue his timing is better.

I'm not saying Nelo can't win, but saying Bivol fights like GGG is silly. C'mon man.

I'm not arguing resumes here, of course Bivol hasn't beaten that many good fighters. I'm tlaking about the styles, I just don't see a comparison with GGG other than that they're both from central asia.

that's a reasonable view to have (though he's beaten at least 3 top ten fighters, so he's not totally unproven) but other than Beterbiev most of the guys at 175 are unproven against elite talent. Same with most of the guys at 168.

We'll have to agree to disagree. He's an upright, jab based fighter. Thats what I see.

see I don't disagree with this, I guess it was just the implication that he applied GGG style pressure.

Golovkin’s jab while not as quick s Bivols is a hell of a lot more educated. That’s what makes GGG so special, he’s like Monzon but with technique in place of power with the jab.

There’s a reason why Canelo couldn’t really set-up shop like he wanted to against GGG.

Golovkin’s jab and what could come behind it had Canelos full attention. Period!

Not in this universe even if they fought 1000 times Bivol is not getting stopped here. They are the same age and Bivol was fighting cruiserweights when Canelo fought at welterweight.

maybe, but GGG doesn't bounce on his toes much. Seano was actually right in one of his criticisms of GGG: he's a bit of a plodder at times (certainly post-Sanchez). I just don't think they fight much alike, that's all.

I could see Nelo slipping a body shot in or something but generally I think Bivol is too good to get stopped.

Nah, he’s not wrong. And yeah GGG is a plodder and you’re not wrong either.

But Golovkin has a much more effective jab than Bivol despite all that because he varies its speed and mixes it up with a probing right hand.

Bivols a will be a easier fight than GGG for Canelo IMO. I wouldn’t mind being wrong mind you, as I’d like to see Caneko be punished for his naked careerist moves but I call them like I call them. He’s a great fighter and can win a fight more ways than Bivol. I hope I’m wrong

Am I the only one who's more interested in this fight than the Plant fight? I feel like we all know Canelo is the best at 168, but LHW poses different challenges for Canelo and I'm intrigued to see what he continues to do there.

I think everyone is more interested in this fight. Even if this is at SMW, it’s still a far better fight
