Law Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act: Signed into law 11/15/21

how would they have flight info, among other things? Seems like an organized insurrection of the democratic process to harass people like this.

Edit: damn it; this was meant for the budget rec thread

So the Chair of the Progress Caucus in the House, Rep Jayapal stated she won’t back a reconciliation bill which includes the Hyde amendment. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Manchin has stated that as a must or reconciliation would be dead on arrival without it.

There are elements beyond just the price tag that are going to continue to show fault lines between progressive and moderate Dem congress members.

Still, the dems will either flourish together or go down in flames together. Luckily for them, either way in 2022 they will be running against the super unpopular abortion bans and I'm fairly certain Donnie Dipshit will announce his candidacy for president sooner than later so both sides will likely be a midterm shitshow lol.

The house from what I’ve seen is expected to go back to the GOP. Senate still seems like a toss up and I’m unsure how much the Texas law will really affect midterms at this point. The GOP senate has mainly pushed for a 20 week abortion ban. I can’t imagine them moving drastically away from that but I suppose national headlines about Texas could stick, especially if a SCOTUS nominee needed to go through.

This post is so completely stupid you should be ashamed you typed it up.

theyre sticking to their guns and trying to get the full bill passed that is extremely popular across party lines.

You have no clue what you’re talking about here. No more watering down bills for republicans who won’t vote for it anyway.

This bill is immensely popular in deep red WV, Manchins home state. He’s literally going against the will of the people of the country and his state. He’s Completely bought and sold just like Sinema.

this is what is upsetting. news outlets and others speaking as if manchin is holding out due to his base when nearly every single proposal in this bill is supported by the vast majority in his state.

hes a cunt and not representing his constituency.

There are also some major Supreme Court cases on the docket that have the potential to rile people up, especially Democrats. I think people underestimate the chances of Roe v Wade going down...if it does, Republicans are fucked imo, as strange as that sounds.

We’ve approached a significant cliff here. Highway funding expires on 10/31 and the BIF bill was meant to continue that funding. Biden and some of dem leadership want this to pass the house this week before Biden’s trip to Europe for this reason. Thursday Biden will be making the pitch to the House Dems about the framework for BBB/ reconciliation in order to see if it’s enough to get a vote through for BIF. A delay this week will have more consequences then the first two.

I read yesterday that the Dems can just pass another temporary extension on the highway funding to give themselves more time to come to an agreement on Biden's human infrastructure. But time was supposed to be the key when Pelosi put off the last vote and still Manchin didn't budge. If anything, Manchin and the progressives got farther apart over that extra time, not closer.

Pelosi had nothing to say to reporters after leaving a meeting with the House progressives and she just pushed back her 11:15 press conference to 2. It doesn't look like things are going real well in her push to get the progressive vote on the BIF.

EDIT:

Pelosi left without talking to reporters because Jayapal had just told her that the progressives will vote no if she brings the BIF to the floor today.

Progressive Caucus chair says they'll vote no on infrastructure today unless the economic bill is in tandem
https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/infrastructure-spending-bill-biden-10-28-21/index.html

I really think that they are pushing Manchin to the point of saying that 'enough is enough, pass the BIF now or Biden's human infrastructure is completely gone'.

Pelosi press conference. Should start soon. Will relate to if the vote is happening. Doesn’t seem like it.

Said in the press conference she was looking to do a vote Thursday night. My guess is she’s buying more time as she might not have the votes yet. Different comments from the progressive caucus seem to be they want the framework for BBB to be drafted first or some wanting it even to pass in the senate before considering voting.

Progressives say release of the Build Back Better text doesn't change anything major right now

From CNN's Lauren Fox and Manu Raju

In conversations with progressives, one source told CNN that the text just released of the Build Back Better Act does not change anything because progressives still want the “Senate to act.”

Another progressive aide told CNN that progressives wanted a vote earlier, not just text.

A third aide said progressives still want both bills to pass at the same time.

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/infrastructure-spending-bill-biden-10-28-21/index.html

Jayapal also said today that they are prepared to block the BIF if it isn't voted on in tandem with the BBB. Pelosi and the progressives are playing chicken with this vote again and my money says that Pelosi loses...again. I really wish that she had the stones to bring the bill to the floor regardless and put the progressives on the spot.

It would help if she had more leeway with House GOP honestly. I find it odd McCarthy decided to turn votes away on this despite there being support in the Senate. I don’t know how much that swung the possible GOP votes they could’ve had but even a dozen could be enough as I don’t think the whole progressive caucus would stay in line like Jayapal is stating.

Yeah, I don't believe that Jayapal has her whole caucus with her either but she has enough. I would really like to see a vote.

But I think that the GOP support would be even smaller than expected. Once the progressive Dems made it clear that the BIF was married to the BBB they seriously damaged the support for the BIF in the GOP.

And I think that Manchin and Sinema have just about had enough of the dicking around with the BIF vote in the House. I read reports that Sinema was very seriously pissed the last time Pelosi delayed the vote. Way more than even her public statements led on.

House expected to vote on extension of highway funding, effectively delaying infrastructure vote

From CNN's Manu Raju

Amid resistance from progressives over moving ahead with the Senate-passed infrastructure bill, the House is expected to vote tonight on a short-term extension of highway funding, effectively delaying the infrastructure vote, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The move is needed to avoid a lapse in funding for transportation projects starting Monday.

Pelosi blinked. Again.

The moderate Dems are not going to be happy about this.

Lol

Well, I guess it makes sense. They have more leverage to have the vote fail than Pelosi does in putting it up and seeing it fail. Seems like it will just be handled back to back.

Okay, so extend the highway funding bill or introduce another. Don't package it in with a partisan bill worth almost 2 trillion.

Build back better is such a stupid fucking slogan lol from Make America great again , to Build back better . Was it once great or was it never good enough. American politics is just shitty slogans , virtue signaling, and people complaining about virtue signaling

Lmao and you claim you used to like Bernie? But you don't want any of the watered down half measures to even pass? You are like a Dim Pool "How I left the Left" type.

Yeah, I'm just like Tim Pool because I'd prefer a highway spending bill not be tied to $2 trillion of unrelated spending, or at least not lapse because the unrelated spending bill isn't passing. What a stupid thing to say.

I liked Bernie because he seemed principled and I ended up disliking him because he showed himself to be just as unprincipled as everyone else in politics. Nice try though. You earned your DNC good boy points for the day.
