Media Ciryl Gane already thinking about retirement

You don’t want to hang around too long being a heavyweight. Just about every heavyweight fight ends in a knockout and you may not have the same luck as Ubeream.

no really most hw longevit cuz no weight cut

Gane fights 2-3 times a year. Him being 35 in four years means he could potentially 8-12 defences and a record of 18-0 or 22-0 but that’s just a big what if we don’t know what will happen in the future

Get in. Get rich. Don't get CTE. Smart Guy

These guys are exchanging brain damage for money.

It's literally called "prize fighting" the point is right in the name. The only thing fighters should care about is maximizing the money they can make in their short athletic window while taking as little brain damage as possible.

That isn't even to mention how they are only getting table scraps, with the UFC keeping virtually all the money generated.

I’d like to make enough money to “retire” by 35 too

I always hear people talk about CTE and the other day I read about it and jesus Christ it's terrifying the brain was half gone and all that was left was a shriveled up little husk. I already respect a guy who leaves mma without going on a KO losing streak but after I learned more about CTE i really hate seeing these classic top tier elite fighters get KO'd over and over

Well, if he beats Francis, he steamrolls everyone else in the division for a couple of years easily. There needs to be a new bloke coming though the ranks to challenge him. Who is it.

Imagine thinking that he's going to fight 2-3 times a year if he wins the belt. In other news, Santa is not real, buddy

If Gane is serious about retiring in 4 years, than it makes sense for him to at least fight twice a year. Especially with his style.

His style is about taking as little damage as possible. He wasn't hurt once last year, even though he fought good fighters in Rozenstruck, Volkov, and Lewis.

If he wanted, he can just safely point fight and win fights.

Gane has a good number of fights for a guy who started MMA like 3 years ago.

He's 31 and these upcoming fights decide his earning potential. Doubt he retires in a few fights.

Fans look at Floyd vs Conor and the Paul matches as roadmaps for UFC fighters, when the UFC would have to be involved, if the fighter is under contract. Why would the UFC want a boxing match when they can just make bank with a UFC card? Seems these goals don't align.
To make much more bank?

He'll change his mind once he sees that money piling up. Easy paycheck

Makes me look at him a different way now, I don't support that half in half out bs, where are the randy couture, the hendos and the Fedors of this gen of new breed fighters ?
They're half in half out by default. Independent contractors

A lot of fighter say this and then wind up sticking around too long.
Roy Jones Jr said he was gonna take 1 more fight at HW against Tyson after beating John Ruiz and that would be his career. He would've retired as an all time GOAT candidate. Instead he stuck around 15 more years and had 27 more fights.
