I don't think this is a coincidence, in March of 2022, UFC was sued for allegedly violating USC 2710 18 U.S. Code § 2710 - Wrongful disclosure of video tape rental or sale records | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute (cornell.edu)

You can find the complaint for the lawsuit in my prior post here:

One of the key elements of an the violation, is that UFC's disclosure of fight pass user data to facebook has to be done "knowingly". This is where it will get complicated and why UFC's potential defense is going to throw facebook under the rug.

Facebook's java script that is taking the data is an "opt out system", this essentially means, UFC will share data with Facebook, unless it chooses not to. This has been a topic of debate for a long time. And it will form whether or not, an opt out system, where if the user did not go in and actively opt out of data sharing, it will be considered "knowingly" under section 2710.

UFC is likely to try to throw facebook's policy under the rug here, and challenge whether or not an opt out system is considered "knowingly" to defend against this lawsuit.

Facebook has been fighting to keep it's systems under an opt out system of data sharing, this will potentially put facebook and UFC on bad terms.

If nothing else, it would be good for UFC to look like it's on bad terms with facebook due to this current lawsuit.

2 weeks after this lawsuit is filed, Paddy calls out Mark...? Coincidence? Nah... I think not.

Paddy could make mma become more popular than football (soccer) in uk

Paddy got one of his social media accounts suspended at some point and Zuckerberg was the name that came to mind lol, it's no deeper than that

Hmm I wonder why...?

I don't think you realize how much of an interest facebook potentially has in the lawsuit that involves UFC.

Facebook has been facing fines and lobbying against legislation throughout the world in the past 10 years to keep it's system as an "opt out" system of data sharing.

There's 2 ways your privacy data can be shared; "opt-in" and "opt-out", all that means is, either you share your data by default and you have to click out of it, or you don't share your data by default and you have to click into it.

The reason why opt-in and opt-out is fought so hard over, is that a large population never bothers changing the default. Facebook's entire business model is heavily based on a users sharing data by default rather than having to choose to share data, they have to choose to not share data.

UFC is being sued essentially because of facebook's opt out policy, which resulted in UFC directly just sharing fight pass user data with them.

One of the biggest questions of this suit will be, whether or not UFC did it knowingly.

UFC will want to say that an opt-out system does not show knowledge, and that will basically destroy facebook's business model I think if the judge agrees.

UFC and facebook are very much at odds, and it's not over something minor, and now Paddy calls out Mark, there's more to this.

I would bet Paddy doesn't know or care about any of that lol. I've heard him talk about being upset with social media companies because his account gets suspended when he's just fighting back against trolls or whatever. You're reading way too into it.

I'm not necessarily sure Paddy knows about it. But I can easily see something like this happening, Paddy mentions to Dana or some UFC staff if he can call out facebook, Dana might be thinking in his head (f*ck facebook) and tells Paddy, no problem if you want to call them out.

It wouldn't surprise me that if you are going to call out a high profile figure that has nothing to do with the UFC, it would be recommended to discuss your intent with UFC first.

I can also see facebook getting a bad reputation around UFC employees/staff due to the lawsuit which influenced Paddy to call them out.

There is no way that UFC and facebook haven't touched base and discussed this lawsuit, facebook isn't sued but it very much involves them

I want whatever you are smoking. UFC has zero chance of becoming more popular than football in the UK ever. You realize many individual EPL teams are worth 3-5x the the UFC, that is how big it is.
Dont get me wrong im a big football fan, but the sport is already at downfall, specially in the uk... Ufc could fill that gap, but it would need big uk fighters

Which teams?

Mark Zuckerberg is a POS, his business model revolves around selling everyone's data real time at auction to the highest advertising bidder.
Opt out model when users are not meaningfully made aware that they are opted in to begin with is a joke.

I hope the UFC rips Facebook wide open.

Mate there a hundred professional football teams in England alone, all getting attendances over 1,000, the day there are 50 MMA promotions operating every weekend in England all getting at least 1,000 people attending is the day MMA became as popular as football lol

That can be done, but as i said, we need big english names in the ufc first

I doubt it can be done because the audience is smaller by default.

Kids love football, parents love that kids love football, but that won't ever apply to MMA.

That automatically excludes children as a key part of the MMA audience, and it also excludes a lot of parents, as going to a UFC event will never be a family pursuit
