Adesanya is a better striker than Anderson Silva ever was

I thought prime Silva was better for sure, when he went in to full attack mode it was only a matter of time, you could only try and survive on the feet.

A 44yo 2yr layoff Anderson took prime Izzy to a 29-28 FOTN... Izzy had a great kickboxing career but in MMA Anderson is better.

at 44 years old he lost a 2-1 decision to Adesanya, while being very inactive and very old with 1 leg break and another serious leg injury prior. (it was also in Australia, which is very close to home turf for Adesanya with thousands of New Zealanders in the arena)

In fact I recently rewatched that fight and it was seriously close, Adesanya won because he threw a few more leg kicks, if Anderson threw a few more leg kicks that fight is a draw.

Silva had creative finishing ability while Izzy is more technical with striking more rudimentary. Very different styles despite similarities. Izzy is a better point fighter I think, while Silva was much better in baiting his opponent to strike with him.

It is hard to say. Izzy has faced tougher competition and has to roid test a whole lot more frequently, so I wouldn't say Anderson's KO record means he is the better striker, or that he went for the finish more. Anderson had a long string of championship fights with guys Izzy could easily knock out.

Anderson looks pretty good boxing these days.

I'll give him leg kicks since he used them a lot more. TDD, no. Anderson actually fought great wrestlers throughout his career. Adesanya barely has. It's easier to inflate your TDD% when most of your opponents are striking-only based.

If you were there for his reign as champ, you'll remember that basically no one had anything for Anderson. He was a spectacle.
Adesanya however, has seen some adversity, albeit against (arguably) more talented modern opposition.

Adesanya is an extremely talented kickboxer, where Silva was maybe the most devastating Muay Thai striker MMA had ever seen.
Prime for prime Anderson catches him imo. He was too sharp. Maybe wins a decision.
Hard to say because their actual fight was pretty lackluster.

Izzys a better technical kickboxer, but Anderson was spectacular finisher in a way no fighter was before and probably no fight will be since. The Vitor KO, the Griffin performance, the elbow against Tony Fryklund. We'll never see his like again probably.

His debut UFC fight when I think he landed 85% of his strikes against Leben lol. His debut LHW fight when he Ko'd James Irvin.

Israel dropped a round on the feet to Anderson in his mid 40s, got outstruck by Jan, almost got finished by Kelvin, and arguably lost a fight on the feet to Whittaker. You could argue that he lost to Romero in a fight that was also 100% standup, and that the only significant strike of the fight was a huge overhand left from Romero early in the first. So no, I don't think he was a better striker than peak Anderson.
