I think that's a legitimate possibility, but that would mean Izzy would do something he doesn't like to do, which is move forward and be aggressive offensively. Still, Pereira has a big weight cut and clinch work and takedowns could sap Pereira and give Izzy an avenue to work his standup with less opposition. It's a very intriguing fight. I do expect CKB to have a great gameplan.

Maybe in time, but there have been wrestlers with a better pedigree than Bo who have transitioned to MMA, but were not successful. Ed Ruth is one of the greatest college wrestlers of all time, and while good, he wasn't in the top 50 fighters in his weight class.

Kos and Randleman were also multiple time national champions, but fell short of winning a title in MMA (and yes, I know Randleman won the HW title, but he never defended, and it was against very light competition).

Let's see what Bo does in his next few fights... then maybe we can discuss how he would do in the UFC.

To be fair Bo is more accomplished than Ed Ruth, Randleman or Koscheck as a wrestler. They all have similar collegiate accomplishments but the U23 gold medal is huge and the caliber of guys he beat in his short freestyle career is more impressive than his 3 D1 titles.

Bo has been training down at ATT since 2020, it's hard to say where he's at right now with his all around game because he's at that stage where he's smashing nobodies and gaining experience, once he fights some real tests and/or meets adversity we'll get a better idea. But making the move to ATT at 24 and focusing on his MMA career once losing in the Olympic trials to the future Gold Medalist Taylor was a really smart choice. It's clear he's been focusing alot on his striking and his comprehensive grappling since he's had 3 No gi matches vs BJJ black belts already too, one being vs Gordon Ryan.

I'm excited for us to have a prospect of this pedigree, it's rare they get in young enough, fully commit and make the right decisions but it looks like Bo is ticking all the boxes.

You know this is MMA right and whoever that wrestler is doesn't have .1 % of Izzy's striking.. There's a reason only a small # of high level wrestlers go to MMA much less reach the very top..

I wouldn't mind if Izzy wrestled. Ngganou did it and I was proud of him.

It's MMA - Francis was fighting hurt and diversified while clearly behind. He should get respect for showing growth and mixing it up to get a victory while being compromised in a huge fight regardless of what people think around here or the hate they spew. It may not have been the most entertaining fight, but it was an impressive display of grit and improvement. In reality he shouldn't have even taken the fight.

Point being that doesn't mean as much as you think. Romero's wrestling skill isn't well suited for MMA because his success wasn't based off landing takedowns. In wrestling, you can literally win a match without getting one takedown.

Bo Nickal's style is suited for MMA and wouldn't get outwrestled by a guy like Brunson.
 
You would think that. But until he has faced slightly better competition, you can't just say he would beat the sitting world champion. It's not as if Izzy doesn't also have weapons that would cause Bo trouble too.

He certainly has the tools. But I think we need to see him fight ranked fighters

so you think Bo Nickal would've outwrestled Yoel the way Brunson did?

i think punches change the wrestling. lots of guys are supposed to be great wrestlers then get hit and they change.

Yes, because it's not wrestling. Try shooting on someone from 5 feet away. Bo is used to shooting from much closer, like boxing range if you want to compare it in MMA terms. Izzy fights at like a point karate distance for the most part
