There are a few things that make me think it's going to be a hard fight for Jones.

- Going up a class is never an easy thing to do. Especially if it's not your natural weight class. Whittaker or Rumble may have had success in this kind of transition, but Jones is definitely not a natural HW.

- It's going to be hard to take Gane down. First, because he's heavier than most of the LHW Jones had to deal, and then because Gane is light on his feet, coming in and out like a lighter guy.

- Jones is going to feel a real HW power and even though Gane is not particularly known for his knockout power, it's going to be new for him. We also have very few examples of successful LHW at HW (except in Pride, with the right "supplements")

- Jones has not been impressive in a long time. He struggled against Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos, and Dominic Reyes. Hell even Ovince St Preux gave him a fight.

So since when do you think he's the heavy favorite against one of the top dogs at HW ?

Jones has never fought in cageweight below 210, so to say hes not a natural HW when he only weighs 205 for about 30 mins and literally trains and fights only on HW weight, is a pretty crazy statement to me...

Gane is the best striker (or 2nd) at HW, and this is a horrible matchup. Jon better have the wrestling to handle it

I don't like this fight at all. If Jones wins, he will be forever marked as the guy who ducked Francis. And If his activity doesnt improve, Its gonna hold the division. If he loses, the division will have the most boring Champion of all time.
Rooting for a Double KO on this one.

Really because it seems like a no lose situation for Jones

if He loses, he can fall back on the huge layover, ring rust, and first fight in HW division
if he wins, it will further cement his legacy as one of the P4P greatest. (If you can look past the picos)

Did Jones go D1 on Reyes, Smith, Santos ? No. It's going to be a stand up war.

It’s in open question. You’re right that Jones did not grapple with those LHWs, but he was also in cruise control at that point and believed he could just spar and coast to victories. They have to have been thinking about the best approach to the top HWs for awhile now. It would be crazy to think that taking down Gane hasn’t been discussed. Frankly I have no idea if it’ll work or not.

Francis surprised Gane with that big slam after catching a kick. Things happen though, Leon took Usman down directly into mount. If I recall correctly Francis only had one takedown the rest of the fight, getting on top in the 5th only when Gane attempted to terrible leglock. If that rematch ever happens I will bet on under 2.5 takedowns and zero wouldn’t surprise me.

We just have no idea what Jones will look like at HW. Will he just be bloated or will he actually have more strength and power? Will he have the speed advantage that guys often have when moving up or will Gane be master and more explosive even though he’s bigger?

There’s definitely a world in which Gane completely dominates him. Too big and spry to get taken down and just pieces a plodding Jones up on the feet. But we won’t know until we see it.

Respect?

Weasel brings up picograms.

Ducks Stipe. Ducks Francis. Jumpson Cyril after Francis was shooting for his life

If Francis was able to beat Gane with wrestling, just imagine what JJ will do to him. Jones will take Gane down & win by tko due to elbow stikes round 2

Oh I'm sure Jon Jones is absolutely thrilled about this.

True but when you’re undefeated and probably the GOAT, every potential loss has downside, especially the kind of L Gane is capable of handing him. Reward much higher than the risk though, that’s for sure.

Jones will find some way to win like he always does. I don't have faith that he will lose this fight.

You are so far off. Jones will take this to the ground. He could always get caught, but I disagree and think this is a great matchup for him. If Francis can take you down with ease, Jon Jones sure as shit can.

I don't believe Jones didn't wrestle becasue he thought he was in control during stand up exchanges. He was not. It was a very competitive stand up battle against both Santos and Reyes. How could he risk his title with this kind of gameplan without mixing everything up with his wrestling ? I simply believe he's too old, maybe injured, to keep up with what made him great when he was young.

Three years outside of the ring is a long time for Jones to take on Gane.

But it is an instant title shot for Jones and that is probably what he's been holding out for. Pavlovich is probably the best HW in the division at the moment. Its a wait your turn thing rather than give it to the best man.
