Why do some fans not want fighters to get paid more?

That driveway snow, man. It’s expensive. Those fans know better.

it is called capitalism. It is not perfect but the pros greatly outweigh the cons.
It's by far the most prevalent system on the planet and by far the most people live in poverty.
Where do the resources and the cheap labor to manufacture things for countries like the US come from by the way?

The only argument against fighter pay is capitalism

What in the hell do they teach in schools these days? If the state athletic commissions were in charge of fighter pay, do you really think they would increase fighter pay?

The richest countries in the world practice Capitalism. Being poor is relative, the poor in the US still have a reasonable level of living with vs the poor in socialist counties.

It's a recent development that capitalism has become a prevalent system worldwide, and it correlates well with the reduction of global poverty. The biggest story of the last hundred years or so is how many fewer people are poor or living on a subsistence level than in previous centuries. Capitalism is by no means the only force responsible for this change, but it is one of the major ones.

There are some good reasons to criticize or even hate capitalism, but the global poverty level is not one of them. Neither is millionaire athletes being paid less than they deserve.

There would be no snow in Dana’s driveway.

lol at the capitalism vs communism talks. Absolute dogshit.

They also want the fighters who would sell more ppvs to get title shots, they're worried for the UFC, since it's dying bro
This, Uncle Fester has all the sheep programmed too do his job. "Come sell your soul for 16% gross revenue". I've actually seen Shersheep argue that all fighters need to promote themselves for opportunities and pay bumps. They defend the same company who cheapened the product, by signing a bunch of regional talent, in order to meet an event quota that generates 750M guaranteed. This is the very deal that emboldened Dana to not promote and place his responsibilities on the fighters.

Dana can promote, he simply won't. If you need more evidence of this, just pay attention to how much work he's put into power slap. It's a meme of a product, but Dana promoted it on his pages, the UFC pages, TV, YouTube, everywhere. Yet it's hard to promote Fighters with actual highlight reels? Gtfo.

It's weird that anyone gives a shit.
I don’t want to pay $90 for a PPV for a dude who’s making 8/8 minus taxes and training costs.

I think the UFC’s greed actually hurts the sport. We will never know how many talented guys figured they didn’t want to sacrifice their body to barely scrape ny for a few years then need a career change at 35 with no money.

I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Investing money in the fighters and not bashing them openly on tv would be an investment in the sport. My business is doing well because I pay more than the competition and attract and retain guys. Same thing.

I'd love for them to get paid more, any fan should, but what are they doing to ensure that? If they all got together and formed some type of union then maybe but until they get there shit together it ain't happening

LOL, oh' come on. You pay to be entertained. If two fighters in the main event were making $30 million a piece, went out there and stunk up the joint, and the card was dog shit from beginning to end from fighters making $1-$5 million, you're telling me that you'd be cool with your $90 being spent, because the fighters were taken care of? Give it a rest. Donate to their GoFundMe or some shit, if that's what you care about. You spend that money to watch the fights and hopefully be entertained.

It goes both ways. Guys making too much money can get complacent, and not work as hard to rise to the top, since there is not the incentive to do so. Oh', and being a professional athlete is a privilege. There is no guarantee that the sport you excel at, is going to be paying Baseball or Basketball money.

It's not really the same thing. Is the UFC not doing good? If the UFC is so bad, why are they able to retain fighters and remain the #1 organization in the world, despite other options being out there? Seems to me like they're dealing with their competition just fine.

They shouldn't get paid at all! The Romans only paid legendary fighters in the Colosseum even though the Praetorian Guard probably got some extra $ added for fighting 200 Lions at once while wondering why the fuck they where there?

I want fighters to be paid as much as they can morally and legally obtain, while maintaining the health of the sport and UFC (at least as long as the UFC is the major player in MMA).

There are plenty of situations where that doesn't correlate directly with "give the fighter more". There are some where it does as well.

I doubt I'm alone in this. I think that's a fairly common opinion.

That said, one thing that is pretty obvious from simple observation of Sherdog is that a good chunk, and the majority of the "fighters are being exploited" crowd doesn't actually care about the fighters very much, as opposed to imposing their personal life/career situation of being underpaid, undervalued, etc...onto the dynamics of the UFC and MMA.

That's why 95 percent of them stream and <1 percent donate to fighters directly through GoFundMes that have taken place and similar outlets that remove the "but but but corporate greed" excuses.

It's very psychoanalytic, but when most posters complain about fighter pay, they are really complaining about their own personal compensation. Dana is a psychological stand-in for the leading figure of where they work, etc...

It's basically the type of "educated" person who majored in English Lit, discovered they don't actually have economically productive skills, and whines about being paid 30K a year as a "college graduate". Funny stuff.

When you are a dime a dozen and you are easy to replace you are going to be paid accordingly.

Seems weird that fans DON’T want fighters to get paid more.

Why does it bother them when people make threads about increasing fighter pay? Its not out if their pocket.

are they ufc shills?

do they just want UFC to be in control and dont want fighters being bigger than the brand?

I know you guys are out there. Explain yourselves.
I don’t mind if they get paid more.

Tired of hearing about it tbh! Life is tough and most people’s pay is nowhere near their worth. Join the club

Many of us live in a free country where you get paid the market value; it is called capitalism. It is not perfect but the pros greatly outweigh the cons. A lot of people resent rich people and claim Capitalism is unjust. Many young folks believe Socialism is a better system, share the wealth equally..... others understand that Socialism sounds great in theory but has never worked and never will.

Bottom line...fighter pay should increase and it is increasing....significantly. If you feel fighter pay is unfair, research why Strikeforce failed. Strikeforce committed big $ into contracts with Fedor, Henderson, "Bigfoot" Silva, Arlovski, Barnett and others. The PPV #'s did not cover the fighters cost and the company went to shit.
Lol @ thinking ppv numbers and gates pay for events

But most peoples jobs aren’t in the public like theirs. Theres no forums or fans discussing our jobs. Nobody shoops u when u mess up at 7-Eleven.

Fighters should promote themselves, not sure why that is such a controversy. Don't act like an ahole, do stuff on social media, and make yourself marketable. People talk about UFC's revenue, but what about the costs. There is a difference between revenue and profit. The UFC does a shit ton more events than other promotions and has many many more fighters on their roster. Smaller orgs might be able to pay a few top fighters more than UFC, but they have less fighters to pay and the lower tier guys get paid less. The UFC has the PIs, more public exposure and what not as well. One thing I really disagree w/ is the UFC not letting fighters use their own sponsors in the ring. I know the UFC wants to keep things uniform, but if fighters can score a sponsorship they should be allowed to profit wear / promote it.
