I wouldn't be surprised. The two most logical MW fights for Izzy were the trilogy with Poatan or a fight against Du Plessis. When the UFC seemingly forced Poatan to move up and matched Du Plessis against Whittaker, the writing was on the wall.

Izzy and Jones are the only big draws the UFC has left, so they're bending over backwards to market them. Giving Izzy another chance at being double-champ against a favorable style matchup, like they did with Jones against Gane, is just low-hanging fruit.
