Danny Masterson (That 70s Show) Convicted of Two Rape Counts

You are not getting it. he did not "resort" to rape. Rape is what he is into.

The power dynamic, making a woman to do what she does not want to do. Taking her when she is helpless. That is what turns him on.

Same thing with Cosby, Weinstein. The coercion and transgression is the point.

Weinstein had the money and connections to have a dozen 21-year-old blonde escorts sucking his diseased dick at any time. but that was not the point, he wanted Mira Sorvino to do it.

Sex is easy for these guys to obtain. What they want is forced sex

And with all the crazy ass porn raising a generation of young males today, I can't wait to see the numbers in 10 years from now, of men who are "into" rape.

Anyways, pretty crazy stuff. The guy had the perfect celebrity life. Set for life off of being a prominent character in a successful show, but not really famous enough to where it becomes an issue in everyday life and you just want people to leave you the fuck alone. What a dipshit.

“A woman has an absolute right to say no,” Cohen argued. “But when the ‘no’ comes 16 years, 17 years later… that’s a very, very scary scenario.”

I did not follow the case, but if that quote is accurate, Yeah, damn scary.
Scientology is a despicable cult, but it's clear-- even from several reactions in this thread already-- that this is a trial by proxy. Just because the powers-that-be in Scientology enabled abusers in other instances doesn't necessarily mean that they did, here. Where is the evidence he perpetrated these crimes? The jury took this on mere hearsay?

And the prosecutor's language quoted here is deeply troubling.
“Why have we heard so much about Scientology?” Cohen asked. “Could it be there’s problems otherwise with the government’s case?”

Scientology was also a prominent feature of the first trial. The major difference between the two trials related to the allegation of drugging. In the first trial, the women testified that they felt weak or woozy, and had little memory, after taking a drink prepared by Masterson. But prosecutors did not overtly claim that Masterson had put something in the drink to disable the women.

In the retrial, the prosecution changed course, arguing that Masterson had in fact drugged the women.

“They were all drugged,” Anson argued. “The defendant drugs his victims to be in control. He does this to take away these victims’ ability to consent. This is not about consent. This is not about the defendant misunderstanding these victim’s signals. When he drugs them, he’s able to completely physically control them. You don’t want to have sex? You don’t have a choice… The defendant makes that choice for these victims and he does it over and over and over again.”

Cohen countered that there is no evidence — such as a toxicology report — that would substantiate the drugging allegation. He also noted that there was no reference to drugs in the actual charges.
Uhhh..."this is not about consent"?? Dafuq? That's exactly what rape is about. Without digging further into the details, or having followed the case, the way the prosecutor frames this, as not about consent, as if the drugs-- assuming there were "drugs", at all, specifically those not taken by the women recreationally-- deprived the women of the capacity to know their own desires...that reeks of women who chose to do something, then don't want to accept responsibility for the dumb choices they were making, and the people they were allowing to influence them. Nobody made you join a cult.

And apparently they took these drugs "repeatedly"? So not only did the church "discourage" them from reporting these crimes in a timely fashion to any authority, they didn't do that until decades later, but they apparently repeated the behavior that led them to losing their ability to consent. Does this sound to anyone else like they were serially choosing to party with Danny Masterson at his small mansion of their own free will?

I surely hope the jury was presented with more compelling evidence than that. The fact the article chose to highlight that as the most damning arguments against Masterson raises an eyebrow.

Here's Conan O'Brien making an allusion to it in an interview from 20 years ago.

Oof it pains me to realize that 2004 was a generation ago. I'm old enough to think of anything in the 2000s as the "new" millennium.

Also wow at those tossed off jokes. I guess social mores really have changed when it comes to comedy. Can't imagine a celebrity casually making sex creep comments like that on national TV these days

I wonder if Scientology will harbor him at all. Maybe he'll get to hang out with Shelley Miscavige all day.

I think it was definitely a factor for this wierd little fuck.

Al Pacino just had a kid with his 29 year old...wife, who I'm sure is in it for love...

Ain't no game needed when you're rich and famous. Even on a minor celebrity level, you'll have plenty of legal options to get your rocks off.

Meh probably total horseshit. Pending civil case money grab running simultaneously

You don't even have to be very rich and famous to have Hollywood chicks throwing pussy at you. David Spade is 5-foot-5 and 50+ years old, yet he still has young models and wannabe actresses following him around like puppy dogs.

Claims you dont have to be rich and famous to get Hollywood chicks, then uses rich and famous person as an example

"Masterson was accused of raping three women at his Hollywood Hills home between 2001 and 2003."

How do you convict someone of rape 30 years later!? This is a very slippery slope.

Even on a local level, some public prominence makes sex easy to obtain. I know the singer of a band that has no real name recognition outside my city scene. He still pulls groupies and "scene girls" after shows.

If you are a celebrity and you are getting hung up on weird sex stuff, it is because you are into weird sex stuff, not because you can't get sex.

Look at that Armie Hammer guy who has the cannibal fetish. all that Hollywood success - but his fantasy is eating women.

I said you don't have to be VERY rich and famous. On the rich and famous scale, David Spade is pretty far down the list. Unless you count his starring role in Joe Dirt 20+ years ago

Okay a different example. David Faustino, also 50 years old, even shorter at 5-foot-3. Known for one TV role, Bud Bundy on Married With Children about thirty years ago.

Also banging models on the regular.

Darren Sharper drugged and raped at least 20 women that we know of. You really think a handsome multimillionaire NFL player is incapable of getting laid? It’s simply what they’re into.

I clearly think THAT particular idiot was incapable of banging the chicks he wanted to. Maybe a tiny peen too, who knows.

Guy clearly had no game. If you say he's handsome I'll take your word for it, not into guys lol

Millionaire athlete that you say is handsome and still couldnt get it done without drugging chicks.

You think a well balanced guy in that position would risk everything he had earned to rape chicks if he was able to close the deal? You think he risked generational wealth doing shady shit to women even though they wanted to bang him? I dont. I think he figured out a way to bang chicks that wouldnt bang him.

A lot of athletes are complete morons and are given everything. He might have just been an entitled stupid asshole

Should've read this before posting above, I don't see how a he said she said argument case qualify as beyond reasonable doubt even if the guy comes across as creepy
