News Chris Weidman is back against Brad Tavares at UFC 292

In his prime Chris could strike pretty well tho.

Oh for sure. I wasn't suggesting that Brad could beat Chris in the latter's prime (though he might have managed to be a marginally tougher opponent than a few of the other dudes Weidman beat back in the day just due to the stylistic match-up). I'd expect a Prime Weidman to out-hustle him just about wherever the fight goes.

I was talking about just prior to his injury. The guy has had more than a few lay-offs and "comebacks" in his career, some longer than others. His fight prior to Hall against Omari he just did not look all that good, despite winning. It was a fairly sloppy fight and both dudes ended up gassing out trying to outwrestle one another. Chris came out on top and arguably got a 10-8 in the third, so kudos to him for that, but he looked nothing like the guy he used to be. The fact that we're now nearly three years and a career-altering injury removed from that performance does not inspire confidence in me.

I mean, granted, Tavares just got TKO'd (bit of an early stoppage IMO, but still), but he was looking fairly good against a credible guy in Bruno Silva before that happened and has spent the majority of his career as a solid, perennial Top 15/lower Top 10 gatekeeper who's remained fairly active and is just more of a known commodity at this juncture if you ask me. That alone would probably be enough to sway me given the red flags surrounding Weidman by comparison -- even if Brad didn't match up pretty well against Chris on paper.

I will never understand how Silva lost to him lol. I've rewatched the first fight not so log ago and Chris was gassed into another dimension starting round 2, got all his takedowns easily stuffed and was basically just a standing slow plodding forward puppet for Silva to play with. Silva could've KO'ed him like 50 times with all those missed punches and leaving himself totally open at Silva's range but dumb dumb decided to toy around lol. Rogan was saying how terrible Chris was and how Silva was toying with him and bam. Dude ended Silva's career and went on to get KTFO 10 times in row, such a shame...

The wrestling mind fucked him into thinking he can only win if he gets in chriss head and make him strike.

You literally have no idea what you are talking about. The art of feinting and rope a dope is nothing new. Silva’s style was only original in that he used it in mma. He is not the best at it by any stretch of the imagination. So the guy that gets lnocked the fuck out and isn’t feinting is he an idiot as well? Dude your logic is flawed

The guy compared getting punched in the head for a living to fucking golf. He has no logic or any platform to speak regarding sports.

Silva was overconfident and clowning around. One misstep was all it took.

He’s like Silvia’s Dennis Hallman. :p

He's still fighting? I thought he retired ages ago.

If My Boy would just accept he's not one of the best anymore he can be like Arlovski. There are so many cans in the UFC now, he can make a living fighting the nobodies Dana is signing from the Contender Series.

I predict Chris will make a great start and will be winning the fight before he does something silly and ends up with a grotesque injury. Unluckiest fighter ever

Tavares is a pretty rough matchup for an aging Chris. Tough to take down, good striking and has a good gas tank.

Despite his low finishing rate he's hurt several guys and did finish Jotko late who never had issues in terms of durability. Gonna be a long night for Weidman.

Doesnt Tavares have like the best tdd stats in ufc?

Gonna be K1 Weidman thats gonna be in action here. Luckily Brad isnt known for one strike ko power.

Also didnt even realize Chris is already 38!

LMAO, you sound like such a Anderson nuthugger with how you describe the fight. The reason Anderson started taunting so much is cause he nearly got finished in the first round when he got taken down and had to defend 2 submission attempts and had his head bounced off the canvas with a GnP shot and basically he couldn't land anything other than some low kicks.

You can't praise Anderson for taunting when it works and blame him for when it doesn't, Anderson's a counter striker and mind games are a big part of his style, he tried them on Weidman and they didn't work. Weidman also happened to be probably the worst match up style wise that he ever faced since Weidman was both one of the best wrestlers at MW and one of the best sub grapplers along with good striking and distance management. Having said that Weidman hasn't been the same since the Rockhold fight where Herb Dean allowed him to take a ridiculous beating and he shouldn't be coming back.

It totally worked lol. It was even way worse than Forrest, thats why Silva was toying with him like there’s no tomorrow. He had basically a gassed, smaller version of Forrest missing punches in front of him with « 0 threats ». Go and rewatch the fight, Weidman tried to take him down like 3-4 times starting the second and got stuffed and was done. It looked like a little 3 yr old boy trying to punch his father, missing the target and his father mocking him for that. Weidman went on to miss like 50 punches leaving himself totally open to get KO’ed at any time. But instead of even throwing a punch Silva decided to take his mockery to another level and paid the price. Karma is a bitch, Silva shouldve taken it at least 1% seriously and would’ve easily beaten him. That was the easiest fight situation he ever had!

He is hard to take down but some people overrate his TDD. He hasnt fought that many wrestler but when he did faced guys with good TDs, he got taken down. By Omari, Theodorou (RIP) or Romero who took him down 7 times.
That said, who knows what Weidman is capable to do these days

Hopefully he pulls in a W and decides to retire on a win.

Always rooting for my boy but I am not even a little confident in him winning fights at this point.

Too bad because i feel like Chris at his peak could have beat Izzy
Sure, but it would take s fluke (or two).

10 years later bud

No flukes happened. The better fighter at that point of rheir careers won. Silva had nothing and went into desperation mode with his antics and lost

2nd fight was a one sided ass kicking until the leg break.

Time to let it go
