Do you think Wonderboy will get paid?

Shouldn't he at the very least get the 20% his opponent would have to give him for missing weight?

Dana is a greedy, corrupt, selfish, manipulative, remorseless, woman-abusing, womanizing, terrifying, backstabbing, spineless, boastful, cowardly, lying, cruel, grumpy, untrustworthy, unforgiving psychopathic, thieving, hatred-spewing, self-centered, disorganized, apprehensive, condescending, narrow-minded, dishonorable, feeble-minded, incomprehensible, potato munching, morally bankrupt, unfriendly, bitter, careless, vindictive, sociopathic douchebag

I think he's trying to avoid people from just taking the money, but it's not Wonderboy's fault. Pay the man for all the work he put in to get himself to the show and ready to go

The problem with this is that Wonderboy spent an entire training camp preparing for one guy. One specific guy. Watching video, sparring, etc. And at the very last second, when no further training can be done, the guy misses weight and the UFC tries to force him to fight someone else.

Wonderboy didn't miss weight. He didn't get injured. He did his job. He did it on time.

And now he's not getting paid - even though he has to pay coaches, training partners, etc.

But somehow you think that's the right thing and he shouldn't get paid?

Right. Okay.
the opponent would have the same disadvantage. WB doesn't want to take a fight against someone else because there's nothing to gain from it. The opponent probably has less name value than his original opponent and wouldn't push him in the rankings. They aren't just fighting for their current purse, they are fighting to get a bigger purse next time out. He is old, he is trying to max his shit out before he retires, which is probably soon.

I agree with Dana, he didn't fight so he shouldn't be paid. He could have fought if he wanted but he didn't instead he wants to panhandle! he should be cut for this!

I mean, if you refuse to fight you shouldn't get paid in full. It would set a terrible precedent that would surely be copied going forward.

Some of you on here have never EVER ran a business & it shows.
Keep in mind the context here, WB is 40 and wqs fighting a guy well below his ranking, he wasnt on any urgency to take this particular fight, also a fighter counting on their opponent to miss weight is like thinking the other guy will just let you win...also imagine it was WB the one missing weight, a champ missing weight, has anyone refused a title fight cause the champ missed weight? Or the bigger name missed weight? Very few refuse to fight, its not because they know they wont get paid, usually its the big reward what they are after, not collecting show money, of course some old journeyman with no ranking or any career aspirations might go for the show money and not fighting cause they just show up for the pay, fighting usually takes you forward in your career, WB is already ranked but he is old, some extra money its not what he is after, he is thinking on the long game, not short term money which is he extra 20% or something from Pereira, but being champ and the potential earnings, so imo it wont set any precedent, fighters will still take fights for the most part imo.

PS: States like New Jersey seem to get fighters paid in this kind of situation, see Leslie Smith vs Aspen Ladd, Ladd missed weight by even less, Smith got paid.

I sadly somewhat agree with Dana. Sorry kiddos, it's a business. Can't have people thinking they can say no to fights where people missed weight and pay everyone out of their own pocket.

Wonderboy basically lost a ton of money. Good food, nutritionist, camp, bringing training partners. All out of his pocket and 0 money coming in. But hey, it’s all for the opportunity right…. lol. The nelk bois will get a nice bday gift.

I don’t understand this “we’re working on it”

do it or don’t. Agree to a deal and move on. Half pay? Full pay? These questions can answered in a meeting in minutes.

The fight was already supposed to happen over two weeks ago, Danar probably thinks it will blow over

Dana White is such a POS.

Can't wait to see him gone forever. He's just a pile of shit to the core. When your own mother hates who you've become, you're clearly a terrible person.
what has he done wrong?

Like I said in the original thread, "show money" doesn't exist and has never existed per the fighter contracts.

They only pay it out for PR when all of their plans for a fighter to appear on a certain card fall apart, and generally, fighters only get their full base purse in these situations if their pay is on the lower end.

Wonderboy is at the end stage of his career, where they're only concerned about using him to make younger fighters more marketable. You can tell that they're annoyed that he's only willing to take favorable match ups.

To clarify, I'm on Wonderboy's side, but this is just the way that the UFC works.

What's even the point of making weight if the only consequences is you lose 20% of your pay?
Michel Pereira appearantly gets paid $85K show money. 20% of $85K is 17 grand, so the point of making weight would be 17K.

That's a lot of money for chronically underpaid fighters.

Other than all that, he's great human being

It would be like being a plumber and having a service call changed to a slightly more difficult job. I think it's fair to ask for more money but the employer isn't obligated and if it gets cancelled, it would be like asking to get paid for a job you didn't do. No contractor companies will pay you for something you didn't do unless it's off the table and they are just being nice.

Conversely, let's say I contracted Rihanna to come out for a huge event I was throwing and I used her name for marketing the event and selling tickets, she promotes the event on her social, etc.

Then the night before the event (after she flies out to Kansas City), I reach out to her team and say "Hey, sorry, change of plans. Still having the party tomorrow, but Jay Z needs more time for his set so I'm not going to need your services. We can do it in two weeks instead.".

Obviously they would have deposits and shit because they aren't as dumb as UFC fighters, but suspend belief for argument's sake. Assume that our contract let's me get out of shit.

Do you think she and her team would deserve compensation ethically?

I still think he'll get paid at least half his purse then again you never know with
ufcheap

Dana: "you think that you can be a ufc fighter and make money? That's not the way it works"
It should be the way it works. If there were a fighter union or CBA (or any regulatory agency on the side of the fighters) he would get show money because it would - and should - be in the contract.

This is not the first time Dana has denied show money to a highly paid fighter. He'll give $12,500 to a lowly fighter all day.
