NBA Player James Johnson Says He Would Beat Jon Jones With 1 Year Of Training

It’s crazy the amount of people who think they can be a fighter, it takes a certain person to be ok with getting bashed in the face willingly and continue. Just a regular fighter too, not an ammy competitor or low level professional.

On top of that, not just BE a fighter but this fucking guy has the gall to say he could go out beat a professional fighting champion.
Ooh buddy, the level of delusion these days among people never ceases to amaze.

This is what somebody that has never trained or fought thinks. Size helps but one year is not going to be enough to close the skill gap enough to where the size plays a significant factor.

Thats like Jones saying he’d beat Johnson 1 on 1 in basketball with a year of training.

Stay in your lane folks.

Royce White is 6'8 too

Primed 30yo, 16th pick in NBA draft and got slapped around by a 5'11 MMA hobbyist police officer

These ballsports athletes and dorks can't grasp that fighting athleticism is a lot different requirements than ball shit

What a bullshit joke to call this guy an "NBA" player.

He has virtually ZERO NBA experience because he's got severe mental health and anxiety problems. He was traded around to the D leagues and eventually shown the door.

Elite pro-sport athletes don't trip and fall into regional MMA, this is a failed athlete that couldn't cut it and washed up on MMA's shores for a single fight.

Problem is that these ex NFL dudes come in already physically broken down from years of football/CTE

Take a fresh 1st round elite prospect and a couple years at a top MMA gym and they would fuck a lot of people up.
Same thing with many NBA guys tbh, have you seen the size of Rajon Rondo or Kawhi Leonard's hands??

If you took these guys even a couple years after draft it'd be deadly. People rightfully shit on Greg Hardy because of his past, but the fact he took the sport a little seriously and made it as far as he did is immensely impressive. How seriously Hardy was actually taking MMA is another thing that should be brought into question, with him doing silly things like taking inhalers in the middle of fights lmao, but it makes his success that much more impressive if you aren't biased.

People forget Hardy went to a decision against VOLKOV, the same guy who just bullied Tai with ease. People are just dismissing the clear reality in front of them. If you're a world class athlete and you really want to take MMA seriously, if your young enough you'll do just fine. Being a champion or top 15 is never guaranteed obviously but if you work hard with those level of gifts you can have a good career.

With that said, James Johnson sounds absolutely delusional and disrespectful.

After one year of training he wouldn't beat Jones but he'd definitely beat anybody under 170 in the UFC roster.

He's definitely on par with Jon Jones as far as his domestic violence game:

Johnson was arrested for domestic assault on June 7, 2014, after allegedly hitting and choking his wife, Callie, at their home.[43] On June 30, 2014, the domestic assault case against Johnson was dismissed after his wife failed to appear in court.[44] The couple later divorced, with Callie gaining custody of their son.[45]

I said he was the 16th pick in the NBA draft which is objectively true. Said nothing about experience. Sorry if the facts hurt your feelings.

NBA players can’t fight
That's like saying Olympic sprinters can't fight, yea if you don't train, you're going to suck at pro fighting. NBA players get paid way too much to even consider giving MMA a thought.

But the idea is that if you took a young prospect from these sports and you trained them at age 20-21, even from a raw level they would be faster, stronger, more agile, quicker, and more used to high level performing than 95-99% of the general training public and MMA prospects. Most NBA players are abnormally tall so of course teaching them the basics of range management and how to utilize their reach for success takes more time which is why they'd probably need more fine tuning in general compared to other pro athletes like a generic explosive burst based NFL player for example, but they'd all be good fighters if they took it seriously from a relatively young age.

This one is interesting; I don't think he would beat Jones. However, there are unconfirmed reports James Johnson is a 2nd-degree black belt in Karate. Also has fought MMA before.

I remember Serge Ibaka throwing a punch at him and then he realizing who he was about to get in a fight with, he backed down real quick.

Just watched it and it looked like JJ two pieced him up real quick and was about to whoop his ass.

But what do I know

NBA players are some of the dumbest humans on earth. I say this as an NBA fan. 5'10 DC would make him his bitch let alone Jones. Jones is 6'4, he's 4 inches taller, not even a big deal.
