I wasn't impressed with Khamzat, nonetheless he is really good. Kamaru did a great job surviving the first round, after that the fight was lackluster and truthfully neither was particularly impressive. Bo has a much bigger frame that Kamaru and is for sure the better offensive grappler. I'm guessing he is at home chomping at the bit for this match down the road.

The story of the fight is more about how usman was slept on here

When I seen what kind of shape he was in, you knew he was gonna be tough.

Crazy how people saw Usman struggle with Masvidal short notice, but Khamzat doesn't get props for pinning Usman for a full round. I think the prep would've been different for a full fight for both guys, but it's impressive to me. No one probably will do that to Usman again.

I mean he completely outgrappled the #1 WW in the world with the highest takedown defense in UFC history and got a 10-8. That's impressive regardless of what you think.

I personally thought he lost round 2 and 3 and was just too inactive but his wrestling is incredible and virtually unmatched if he can get your legs.

Very underwhelmed by rounds 2 and 3, but I'll wait to see whether the broken hand is verified.

Am a fan, but not impressed by what he is showing last night. His gas tank is suspectible.

Still on the fence, every win seems to have an asterisk next to it. He's a high level fighter no doubt but I'm looking forward to him taking on a full camp legit top 5 MW. But he seemed like a nice guy after the fight tonight and didn't go all spastic Connor about 'I smeshe everyone"o mode

"Legit top 5 MW." There is no legit MW. That division is loaded with mid-tier fighters. No camp Usman could conceivably defeat anyone in the MW top 10.
I think short-notice, "No Knee" MW Usman is a little too prominent in your fantasy world.

C'mon man, Usman was always a huge welterweight and chimaev has only recently moved up to middleweight full time, the size difference is negligible.

He was schooling Leon in the first fight too until that kick in the last minute

You don't suddenly become shit after a lackluster decision loss to a very good and improved Leon Edwards
I didn't say that, but Usman definitely didn't look as good against Edwards in Fight #3 as he did in the first two.

Apparently he broke his wrist in the 1st. Not sure if that’s true but if he lost 2 and 3 I still scored round 1 a 10-8 making it a draw

This. I wonder if we'll ever see him in a straightforward fight with a top guy that lets us see what he's capable of.

His wresslin, power and chin are impressive. His striking defense is pretty bad. Will his cardio handle a high paced 25 minute war? I doubt it.

Usman impressed me way more. Old, no knees, 2 week camp and was litting Chimaev the fuck up. You made that a 5 round fight and it would have changed the course of the fight.

Nobody cares... if there's an injury during a fight, it's his own problem, whether it's true or not.

Ciryl Gane broke his hand (not speculation, certified) against Tuivasa and still won by KO.

why was this fight not 5 rounds?
Why would it have been 5? The original Khamzat-Costa fight wasn’t 5 rounds, there was no title on the line and Usman was short notice.

As to the thread question—no, I wasn’t particularly impressed. Khamzat has terrible holes in his striking and his cardio is kind of suspect. These flaws show up any time he fights elite competition.

.

As I said in another topic, how can you not be impressed by someone who just beat Usman, what ever how he won or any other facts (short-notice, Usman being welter initially, etc).

Guy fought #1 in then Gilbert Burns (behind division's champ) and won. Fights someone who was undefeated for ten years until recently, and won.

To me, it's incredibly impressive. I have to say, though, that I want to see him being more active... The fact that his last fight was a year and two months ago before tonight is an absolute shame. Get that punk Dana White outside of our MMA.

Yeah, and this fight was at 185 and Khamzat had a full camp to prepare and went to the fight location early to acclimate. I know the excuse was always "he's too big for 170 and is reallly a MW" but what is it now? Does he have the cardio to win a tough 5-round war against a top MW? It's hard to be confident of that after today.
