How does the fight go?

how is this one not merged into the mega like anything else pertaining to francis? Is it because boxermaurtis is such a good poster they just let it slide?

Ive rewatched the fight twice in HD and the deciding rounds are the most inactive, 9 and 10. Fury did better in round 10 than I initially gave him credit for, a lot Francis' shots were dodged or deflected.

Good for him.

Glad the good guy finally got ahead.

I hope he's the first of many to demand their actual value.

He wasn't a nobody in the end. He was the UFC Champ. Woulda thought defending his UFC title would bring him somewhere near what an exhibition boxing match could get him. It should IMO. Glad for Francis. Hopefully this helps pave the road for MMA fighters to be paid more.

You realize that he could have re-signed with the UFC at substantially higher pay right? In retrospect he made a good call taking the risk for a big boxing event, but let's keep things honest here.

Some guys box to the level of their opponent. They do just enough to beat who ever is in front of them.
when they train you to judge boxing the 10-10 round is highly discouraged. Even when it’s close they want you to pick someone.

I'm aware of the distaste promotions have for 10-10 rounds, but completely disagree with it. You'd see a lot more correct decisions if 10-10 rounds weren't taboo, as it's the very close rounds where bias, corruption, and incompetence is most present.

I've always suspected that the reason every promoter is against 10-10 is that this is the easiest way to fix fights. If you know who all the close rounds are going to, you have a major advantage when betting.

This is just your dumbass speculation. Multiple sources have confirmed he's making 8 figures for this fight. You cant do math.

For years Fury supposedly made $4M for Klitschko. Turns out it was $600K.

Boxing purses are completely made up numbers.

He's not a champion and he just made over 10 million. He's going to make even more in his next fight, coming off a loss. The UFC deal was inferior in every way.

Francis himself has said he's lost $15M by not signing the UFC deals he's been offered over the years. He's literally down $5M at this point by not having just fought with the UFC. If the Fury purse is even really $10M and not less.

I've said all along IF everything works out and he comes ahead then great, good for him. But he's still below what he would've been at had he just stayed with the UFC and needs to overcome that first, if ever. It was always a gamble and he's still gotta stick the next step too to even get where he'd have already been at in the UFC.

And why we're pretending beating Jon Jones wouldn't have been impressive is just bizarre. It's literally the biggest win in MMA if it ever gets pulled off.

Jones eventually bent the knee to Dana and is now seeing Francis do what a REAL revolutionary does - carve his own path. He's got to realize that not only can that man likely beat him in a fight, he can also do that in a boxing match, and is also doing that in business and creating opportunities for himself. If Jon had a team with the vision of Francis' team, he might have been that guy.

I think guys like him are feeling mighty inferior to Francis right now on a daily basis.

Every day begins with a look in the mirror, followed by a punch, a broken mirror, an "I hate you", bandages, an inspection of UFC belts in their display case, a scream, a punch, broken glass, an "I hate it all", bandages, an inspection of social media, a curse word, a pitch against the wall, a broken phone, an "I hate my life!", etc., etc.,

Jones recent injury is another reason why Francis was smart to make the jump to boxing, at 37yo it's pretty damn tough to get through an MMA camp without injuring yourself.

In the end duh of course not. But are we gonna sit here and act like he shoulda been making $10mil for each of his 14 UFC fights? Dude only fought 3 title fights total. I'm definitely all for better fighter pay, but Francis wasn't a huge name until 2021 when he went on Rogan telling his life story and then won the title right after. He did not merit being paid millions upon millions up until that point.

he would have made more in his next ufc fight than all of his combined prior ufc fights. that’s because he would have been (1) a defending hw champ and (2) fighting jon jones. funny how having a high profile opponent correlates with higher pay.

not sure what people want. you want ufc to pay everyone 10 million dollars? yeah see how long that lasts.

I am hearing a lot of talk about how sweet science is a bunch of BS, and boxers are overrated. Ngannou's great performance yesterday against the best heavyweight in the world was very impressive, but it can only happen in the Heavyweight Division. The absolutely freakish power and strength of Ngannou were enough to scare Fury to the point he was hesitant to let his hands go. He normally intimidates and ragdolls guys in the clinch but Ngannou was too strong for that. Imagine Volkanovski verse Crawford, it would be an absolute blood bath. The speed and skill difference would be frightening. Canelo versus Leon Edwards would be just as bad. If this fight opens the door for more cross MMA vs Boxing matches don't expect similar results.

ngannou is obviously the outlier; HW, big power, rock solid chin. Incredibly strong which kind of counteracts his lack of infighting ability. We’ve seen recently how guys like wilder and Joyce can have huge holes in their games yet still be top HWs with a few key attributes. Move down from HW and there would be some horrible, and possibly dangerous mismatches

fair play to ngannou though, he certainly did far better than I thought he would

Isnt this a clickbait topic/article? Im not 100% sure but there is a big chance Andy Ruiz Jr made more from the two AJ fights than what he made for 30+ fights, its not only an MMA thing, sure he wasnt the world champion at the highest level like Ngannou, but Ngannou had the chance to make real money on his own sport, clickbait-ish article imho.

Is there any other sport where athletes dream about jumping ship to make money elsewhere? There was a time where a lot of UFC fighters wanted to go over to WWE cause opportunity were more lucrative. Kinda sad lol
I would say no to be honest, Ngannou was next to make bank against Jones and believe he could had renewed his contract before his last fights and would had made more money in those fights than what he actually made, not including the boxing fight of course, other top MMA guys seem happy with what they make.

He was supposed to make around 8 million for the Jones fight, not every boxing fight will pay the same so 8 million wasnt such bad offer, the issue with the UFC/MMA pay is that his next fights would had made him peanuts in comparison, specially in defeat.

PS: Talking about this article below:

He'll end up with 30 million when it's all said and done. That was just disclosed pay. Not only did he make bank there, he just set himself up for another 20 million + payday against Wilder and a 30+ mil rematch against Fury.

What's funny, Francis said on Ariel that he likes to farm and would b content farming the rest of his life. Welp, Farmer Frank is about to have the craziest farm on Earth with the money he's about to get paid.

It's funny that people thought him leaving UFC would be a mistake. UFC offered him 10 million dollars spread out over 6 fights and it wasn't even guaranteed. If he lost a fight, they could cut him. Not only did he make more money in one fight, he made more than his original and "unprecedented" new UFC offer. Leaving was the best thing he could do no matter the Fury outcome.

If every other champ for over 10 years was getting PPV money, and for some reason he was only getting his base pay, probably good he fired his manager.

You don't remember those slaves with $50,000 watches taking private jets and taking months and years off?

Funny part is the clowns screaming about "slave contracts" and "paid peanuts" about guys with millions who only work a few times/year are themselves working 9-5 in a cubicle every day for like $30k/year and drive a Kia Sorento.

I kinda disagree about competition, still remember fondly all i needed was Netflix.
Now i need Netflix, HBO+, Disney+, Paramount+, ffs...
But about Ngannou, i dont think anyone though It was dumb to box Fury, but If he would be able to get the fight happening without the UFC machine behind him.
Glad It worked out.

Let's not forget that Mayweather was playing in a charity basketball game within 24 hours of fighting McGregor.

@Bret 'The Hitman' Hart

People say he would make bank against Jones but I doubt that fight would ever materialize. JJ never made a concrete move to HW until Ngannou was gone.
