The problem with pumpkin pie

Grandma would make pumpkin pie all the time and I would never eat it. I didn't like pies of any flavor. And it is a good thing I didn't eat the pie as I'm allergic to pumpkins I've discovered later in life. I'd be throwing up for hours afterwards if I'd eaten it.

The crust. Why do they all have the same bland, tasteless, chalky crust? You have to eat the crust first otherwise it will ruin it if its your last bite. I cant think of any other dessert like this. The crust is usually my favorite part. It has potential to be the GOAT dessert but instead it's a mid tier, seasonal thing that needs whipped or ice cream to help it along. Why don't they ever do a Graham cracker crust or a flaky one like apple pies have? I can't be the only one who's up all night pondering this.....
My mother makes hers with a gingerbread crust.

Pumpkin is inferior to cherry. Anyone who disagrees should be purged from the gene pool

I much prefer sweet potato pie. My sister makes it with a graham cracker crust that's way better than regular crust.

Totally agree. I've had 50 different pumpkin pies in my life and hated the crust on all of em. Lately I've just been eating Dutch apple and passing on lame ass pumpkin

I guess I've just been spoiled to grow up in a family where pies were generally expected to be homemade, but does a supermarket pumpkin pie not use the same shell crust as their pecan pie or custard pie? I understand fruit pies are typically enclosed and require a different crust type, and certain pies like key lime are made with cracker crusts, but everything else seems to be the same, no?
Pumpkin always has the same shitty crust which seems to be unique to pumpkin. I'm not sure why

Never tried pumpkin pie before... must be an American thing.

Unfortunately I don’t have proper experience with pumpkin pie, but i do get your observation TS.

Isn't it essentially the same thing? Don't they have the same spices and the pumpkin/potato just acts as a base? I've never had sweet potato pie but I was told this once.

Publix makes the best pumpkin pie. Their crust is better than other store bought pumpkin pie crust.

Graham cracker crust is not for me.

My wife hates all store pumpkin pie, so she makes her own. That’s the problem OP, you need homemade pumpkin pie for that choice crust.
So true. I can't believe you had to post that. Store pies sucks ass.
