Rumored Leon Edwards plans to call out the winner of Strickland vs Du Plessis after UFC 296!

Is Leon delusional or something? Why the fuck would the UFC have any interest in him becoming double champ? Let alone taking the MW belt from a huge name who actually does sell tickets unlike him in Strickland?

Dana's gonna tell him to stfu and he's fighting Shavkat next.

If it goes to decision against colby, I think there is a high chance the UFC/judges give it to Colby.

leon is just too inactive and by all reports horrible to deal with in talks.

dana clearly doesn't like him

They would be my favorite champion immediately... Hands down ..

And that'll make them the GOAT of that division

Divisional GOAT

1) win title
2) Defend said title more times then any previous champion did agaisnt ranked opponents.
3) that is all
Volk is the only one left that has title defenses in the men's divisions against contenders in his weight class. I think Pantoja might be able to get some defenses of his belt in, too. and of course, Islam has yet to defend against a LW contender but he DOES have 2 title defenses against an ATG in Volk so kudos to that.

I always felt like that is so much more impressive. Beating all the contenders in your weight class is more impressive than winning a 2nd belt right away when you've just won the belt. Feels like with the right match up, there can be many double champs. I think there should be some rule where you need at least 3 title defenses before you fight for another belt

ive seen a lot of opinions that echo yours - some sort of title defense requirement before attempting to move up and challenge for a belt in another weight class. and ive often seen 3-5 defenses mentioned as appropriate numbers. i say call it 3. if a champ makes 3 defenses they get to choose to either move up or move down and try for another belt. i think you're right; with proper matchmaking there could be a lot of double champs and maybe even a triple champ or two. that definitely takes a lot of the luster out of grabbing a second belt.

i wonder if the UFC will eventually have to put some sort of guidelines in place for this. if every division is gonna be logjammed because the champ wants to fight another champ then all of the divisions will get stagnant.

wot? Colby has fought Champs or people who just challenged for the belt for the last 5 fights.
this is true, its just frustrating not seeing Colby fight and his activity level drop. i know he was recovering for a while from when Masvidal sucker punched him, but prior to that he couldve taken another fight in between Woodley and the 2nd Usman fight. im really disappointed he hasnt fought Burns because that would be a great fucking fight.

Masvidal, late thirties coming off two losses
Woodley, late thirties coming off two losses
Lawler, late thirties coming off two losses
RDA last win over someone coming off a win, over 5 years ago.

Did good against Usman both times, but 4 wins in 5 years against names rather than up and coming contenders isn't impressive. Avoided the likes of Gilbert, Leon (who was offered to him), Belal (who was offered to him), Khamzat (who was offered to him) and so on.

I don't hate Colby or anything, just frankly am not that impressed with his streak in the slighest. He'll fight the best of the division when a title is on the line, he's become unwilling to fight actual contenders coming off wins and stamp his name as the next guy in line.

Fuck these champs trying to fight in a different division before they've defended 4-5 times and earned it

Fuck the UFC for enabling it and pushing it in the name of a quick and easy buck because they don't actually do their job and promote their fighters

He can call out whomever he wants. But the UFC is not going to allow it. If he vacates they’d probably give him a contender fight. But that’s the most he could hope for. It would make him look like a clown to even make the call out. Dana will put an end to that nonsense the second he announces the gate, attendance, and POTN winners..

“No, Edwards is not getting a TS at MW. Next question”.

The guy that only fights once a year is talking about cutting less and fighting.
That's amusing.

Leon's logic is Usman cleaned the dvision and i beat Usman so i don't need to beat other WW's. DDP has the same logic lol
DDP looking past Strickland. Might not be a good idea. At least Leon is champ 2x.

Well, I don't know how that's gonna work out for Islam who wants to call out Edwards if he wins his next defense, or even now.

A prediction of a callout? No direct link, video, etc, only the claim that Leon said what he said? Kinda nebulous...Is it even real?!

Can you read? He said it on interview to TNT

Champ champ fights make sense when the fighters are exciting and marketable. Or have cleaned out a division. Or if the match up between divisions is too tantalizing to pass up.
