Review: Top Boxer Custom Winning Inspired Gloves (6/10)

I'm glad you guys liked reading it. I wasn't too sure what the reaction was going to be because a lot of people seem to like his gear and are ALWAYS recommending him. I wonder how many others got free gear like I did.

The question still is what now? When I had a bad experience with Juan he gave me partial my money back. It was still something. Mohsin sent me replacements. Great job. With this glove what now? It's just going to be wall decoration like my Grants I suppose and that pisses me off.

He probably did something wrong in your case but since he wanted to satisfy you and was willing to take the gloves back and make a new pair why didnt you go that way and then review both pairs ?Imo you shouldnt keep it a secret but you also had to give him the chance to fix it.

I offered him that option but he only gave me one option was that he didn't want me to review. It's also a hassle to send it back and get a new one made. It took long enough the first time around.

Agreed.

Was a good review Clamp, but I kind of feel for Topboxer because you never gave him a chance to rectify any problems.

If I buy something and it

This sums up my feelings too. It's good that you've taken the time to write an honest review, but it seems odd that you didn't take the opportunity to potentially get the problems fixed, especially considering that you're clearly annoyed at 'wasting' $160.

The problem is getting fixed but only after some deliberation and not in the way things should have been. This is a back and forth and I can't disclose what is being done but we are taking care of rectifying the situation. Good luck guys if you order and aren't happy or have a problem.

If I buy something and it’s not working, I won’t keep it just so I can say it’s no good. I think it’s only fair to give the manufacturer a chance to rectify the problem.

You’d rather review a bad glove than get it replaced. I sure wouldn’t do that with $160. (That now makes me wonder why he initially thought you might give an unfair review?)

Looking at the latest pictures you posted, and you must have got a real bad pair of gloves. I’ve had custom gloves for 5 months, and not a single stitch has popped, and the colour black/red/white is as sharp as ever. A bit of foam seems to be breaking away, but that does not affect anything. I did get a glove with a bit of a dodgy thumb in one of my stock winning clones, but Topboxer replaced it – sorted.

Everyone does seem to agree that Muhammad is a nice guy. I’ve had good experiences with him, as have the majority of folk who write about him, so I don’t think one bad review should turn people off.

sorry, but i don't agree with these posts at all. these were CUSTOM gloves. these were not mass produced. you would think that custom gloves would be checked pretty carefully as far as craftsmanship is concerned before sending them to a paying customer since they are one of a kind. i don't think Clamp did anything wrong by review the pair he received. plus, it says right there in the conclusion that Clamp did talk to mo about fixing the situation.

Dtenny10, you now questioning Clamp's credibility because he used and properly reviewed a glove he received is some horseshat.

Yeah I'm not in the circle of friends lol. Don't ever forget that I've done bad and honest review for ring to cage and other brands before you guys accuse me of anything. These gloves didn't meet my needs or expectations at all and my pictures back up my claims. Remember that when companies mess up something they're easy to deal with. Western Union isn't going to protect you guys if issues come up. I cant disclose my deal with him but we'll see if they hold up their end of dealing with this situation.

I don't know how anyone could argue otherwise. Anyone questioning the validity of the review should take a closer look at the picture provided. There are clear quality issues in the gloves being reviewed. Clamp can only review the gloves that he's received, and any criticism of his review is unwarranted and comes off as fan-boy-ish. There are plenty of positive reviews on TB gear here, and Clamp didn't jump into those threads and crap all over their write-ups.

I have had the luxury of seeing and using some Top Boxer gear in training, and it's been great and of high quality. That doesn't change the fact that these gloves are clearly lacking in both build quality and performance.

first of all thanks for the review, i agree with all your points about western union and return/exchange hustle. shipping gloves back to him would probably cost $50 or more. the pictures of the gloves problem areas look bad enough to be pissed, it would've pissed me off as well, considering the amount of time it took to receive the gloves.

now, what i dont get is the amount of drama and shadiness surrounding this whole thing, first he didnt want to sell you, then he sends you an extra pair of gloves, then he offers to exchange the gloves but only if you didnt do the review and now you cant disclose your deal with him. why? did he offer you great riches? what kind of deal you can possibly have aside from him paying return shipping and making you new gloves?

**initially posted in wrong thread-

I was at work when I read Clamp's review and it gave me the cold shivers. I was worried that I spent $150 on a over-hyped product that I waited a long time for. When I got home, I was surprised to see that my gloves had arrived. Anyway, long story short, I rushed to the gym and put in a good 3 hours of bag work on them... From first impression, these are the best gloves I have ever used. I admit, I never tried Winning or Grants but I have tried Title, Ringside, Cletos, Fairtex, Twins, Triumph, Windy, Boons, and Top King.

I did not have any of the issues Clamp described except for little color bleeding (which I resolved by wiping the leather down with diluted bleach), the leather being a bit loose, and the gloves running hot. Otherwise, the gloves fit perfectly, wrist support is there, thumb placement is fine, stitching is on point, padding is AMAZING, and the weight is finely balanced. Again, I only put in 3 hours but will write a review as soon I put more time into the gloves.

Pics. Now. Please. The thing is they're fine if u pitter patter. Anything is fine if you're tapping a 100 lb bag. Im smashing the Fuck out of a 150 lb bag and a 200 lb bag. They didn't hold up and didn't pass that test. Im disgusted. Want to see more pictures of how they look now!? My trainers hold mitts like pros. They're not students holding for students either. They're old crusty ass men and old school trainers. They didn't have nice things to say about them. My students didn't have nice things to say and i dont have nice things to say. How am i in the minority on this board? Its such a small pool of people who train, actually train and abuse their gear. I'm not gonna throw stones but no one is fooling anybody. Be real. Im glad this issue is getting handled but there is no way Someone with the same exact glove and foam could use this glove, craftsmanship issues aside.

Like I said, I only had a chance to try them out for 3 hours... If you search my profile, I posted pics of the same gloves Mo had sent me before he shipped them out.

But, wow, why are you so butt hurt that you have to insult me? I didn't say anything bad about you or your review. Like others said, maybe you got a bad pair. Besides, if my gloves had similar issues with an injury, poor thumb placement and spacing issues with the padding, I don't think I would be able to smash "the Fuck out of a 150 lb bag and a 200 lb bag".

Anyway, I spent my 3 hours hitting a 100lb title bag and a 7ft fairtex pole bag.

I for one have dealt with Clamp many times. I have read his reviews since I joined. He is legit and his reviews are legit. 100%. I know how much hell he puts gloves through unlike another person on here who reviews then sells immediately. If they didn't hold up to his expectations...then he has every right to write about it and inform us of his findings. For those who think he is just doing this because he is a so called R2C fanboy.....there have been a few times when he gave an R2C glove less than stellar reviews. Its just an open and honest account of his experience. If you don't like what he has to say....then just skip over it and move onto another product review.

The thing that pisses me off is no one knows how the others test gear. I always see pictures of gloves and sparkling reviews. I then buy the same glove and I wonder how the original reviewer used them. The main point is these gloves fail when i used them. I use and abuse before i type so no one gets misled or lied to. I factor in every aspect of training and the only others i see doing that are task and strat.

Appreciate bro, I know not everyone feels the same about reviews. But I think it's safe to say these gloves feel unfinished. I'm surprised people have given clamp grief over the whole matter even with photos and facts. Clamp has no vested interest on trying to bash down Muhammad for no reason. He got the sig series based on other peoples recommended reviews on them.

But awhile back people bashed clamp for giving a high praised review for R2C C17 1.0, everyone jumped down his throat and he took it all in stride. Somehow, certain individuals turned it into an unofficial R2C vs Beaulieu/TopBoxer war. [Mohsin and Muhammad never had beef with each other, and still don't.] And now when the tables are turned, its still somehow Clamps fault. I don't like name dropping unless you are blatantly lying. Things like "oh my gloves aren't that way, or you got a faulty pair" or whatever the case may be, just leave it be or youll be digging a hole much deeper than you can get out of.

But, there is light at the end of the tunnel I have personally sent feedback to Muhammad along with pictures and references to making the sig series glove a much better one. I did an unofficial review for him, Clamp had posted this one, and I don't believe me posting one would have benefitted any, I don't believe in making a scene when there is no need for another review. And no I am not saying Clamp is making a scene either, don't twist what I am saying. Muhammad has what he needs to build a better version of the glove. I whole heartedly, believe Muhammad is a good dude! I've used other models of his gloves like the ortho and IMF and they are some of the best gloves. He will bounce back, that is a given. Right now he has to take this feedback from Clamp and myself; and build on it.

A lot of companies have been scrutinized, some listen, some don't. It's up to Muhammad to turn this negative into a positive. I feel he will do the right thing and make a better glove. I believe he is an honorable man, and will do his best to make a better version making this current one a thing of the past.

honestly, it sounds like he's had a big influx of orders since the first few posts about him came onto the boards. i wonder if Clamp just had some bad luck in that Muhammad is rushing to meet all these orders and some gloves are coming out less than perfect.

That very well could be. The way I see it.....there is always going to be at least one fail in ANY product you buy. The most important part is how the seller resolves it.
