Outdated gaming mechanics.

Running requiring pauses after every 2 seconds. Shit is wack. Its a game, you got fucking Aliens in the game but unlimited running is 'unrealistic'? Fuck off.

turn-based.

<{cum@me}>
I KNOW

I put up with FF2 and FF3 on SNES because I understood there were hardware limits. After that gen, I never touched a turn-based RPG. You literally can't give one away to me and get me interested.

I'm serious.. I downloaded a bunch of Shadowrun stuff off the Epic store cuz it was free for a while, but as soon as I tried the game and realized it is turn based I uninstalled EVERYTHING.

What game mechanics do you consider outdated?
Cutscenes.

Half Life had the right idea.. just let the story happen around the player. If he or she wants to pay attention to the story, great.. it's there if you want it. For those that just want to shoot/kill/maim you just need someone to point you in the right direction.

I don't want to lump all shooters into this category, but the FPS genre has been lazy as all fuck for years, with only a handful of games like "DOOM" and "Vanquish" squeezing the most out of it. I'm a little tired of ducking behind cover and shooting waves of stupid enemies. I'm not huge FPS fan, so take that with a grain of salt, but shit is feeling stale.

"Survival/Crafting" games. Was neat for while, but the market is over-saturated, and I'm pretty much done with the whole "mindlessly farm this shit, to make this shit, so that you can mindlessly farm other shit to make more shit" mechanic. I'm pure ADD with my games, but this is getting ridiculous. it's "Mindless Busywork: The Game", and I'm pretty well done with it.

Battle royale games

Idk if that counts as a mechanic but man they are over saturated

Every stupid NPC wanting me to do something for them.

The roll to dodge mechanic has been played out for a long time.

There also seems to be a resurgence of grappling hooks in games (BF42, Forbidden West, Halo Infinite). Just stop. It hasn't been fun since Tenchu.
