Their album Marquee Moon is definitely the place to start. Unfortunately they only have three albums and their third came out way later in the 90s. Adventure is a little more new wave and less on jazzy improvisation but still good. I'd go Marquee Moon, Adventure, then check out Live at the Old Waldorf.
