Best journeyman in UFC history?

Look at his career. It really is the definition of a journeyman. He is there based on some sort of name recognition. He might even get a "belt". He never defends or the promotion doesn't exist after that.
He's been a contender for years. Pretty much no one who gets a title shot is a journeyman.

If we are being literal with our definitions then journeymen don't stay in the UFC. They bounce around every available org there is and take just a few fights in each.

If we are going by the Sherdog definition of "fighter with mediocre record" then there are lots of guys that fit that bill.

Sherdog calls Michael Bisping a journeyman ffs. A literal world champion with a 30-9 record who has 20 wins in the UFC.

Anthony Smith was a journeyman before the UFC. Has arguably mixed success since coming over and likely stays afloat due to the lack of light heavyweight talent at the moment.
That is the issue. He had a journeyman type career but he broke through by getting a title shot and staying in the UFC. It's the same thing with Jorge. He might have had a journeyman like or a failed contender career early on but it isn't the case anymore.

Journeyman title is more suited for guys like Jesse Taylor. I think he fought in the UFC and pretty much every major promotion at least one time.

There's no real journeymen in the UFC, journeymen exist to pad prospects records and would get cut after their first three fights. If you mentioned names of anyone who's ever been ranked or had a title fight then you have no clue what a journeyman is. Furthermore, journeymen who do have 'good moments' are ruining their own future career. The point of being a journeymen is to lose and give your opponents rounds without getting hurt so you can fight again soon.
This is the definition of a can.

not a journeyman.

journeyman needs to be around for a while, has fight in different organizations, has an incosistent record, that we cannot presume the outcome of his next fight, but still is a recognizable name and can still poses a threat in the rankings according to the moment of the fight and the styles. ed herman, mr smile are one of those, nikita krylov until 2 fitghts ago.

This article will help you to understand what a journeyman is a little bit more: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/b...ts-defeats-few-pints-boxing-lewis-van-poetsch.

You are mistaken for what a journeyman is. That is why I say the definition doesn't really apply to the UFC. It is a term used for boxing for guys who jump from promoter to promoter and different managers. They just fight whoever is in front of them. They will usually lose but journeyman boxers have won titles in boxing before.

No, I think you are. MMA isn't boxing, and Smith isn't a journeyman

Is Nick Diaz a journeyman? He has fought in a lot of different promotions.

It's all relative to the competition. The LHW division sucks these days. He benefits from the lack of depth in talent and even then, can't manage to have any real consistency. He loses against anyone who is good or even just somewhat good in some cases.
