Ukrainians were officially second class citizens in the 2nd Polish Republic and the Soviet Union had just starved millions of them to death. They were Ukraine's two mortal enemies. Germany rolls over Poland and asks Ukraine to help them fight the Soviets. It was a no brainer from the Ukrainian perspective.

This SS unit didn't have any formal involvement in that. There were tens of thousands of them so no doubt some individuals did, but no orders of genocide came from the leadership of that unit that I'm aware of, which is why it didn't get convicted of any war crimes.
