International Climate Change Deniers...

Show me where I suggested doing nothing.

And there is abundant evidence that 'greening the economy' as you call it is harmful to prosperity. Solar and wind sourced power are an abject failure, while also decimating the bird population.

So much of climate hysteria is market driven. It's inconveniently true Gore is now a billionaire due to his investment in 'greening the economy'. He and that other putz Kerry fly private everywhere they go.

I read somewhere that just one of his private jet flights to Rotterdam or Bern or wherever he goes equates to you driving your car every day for a year. First class not good enough?

I remember back in the 70s, fears of an Ice Age gripped the gullible masses.

So, now a mere 50 years later (a millisecond on the Earth's timeline) we are fraught over the heat index?

That's why people discarded the term 'global warming' for climate change. Because the climate does change.

Some might even describe the phenomenon as 'cyclical'.

Also, you're being very reasonable, as is your wont which I appreciate.
It wasn't necessarily you to whom I was referring, just those in this thread who are.

Edit: I would address your other points--I do have counters for the most salient ones, but I just don't have the energy (lol)--it's been a long fuckin' day. I will just say the cost of solar continues to fall and the efficiency continues to rise and that is expected to continue. Solar and wind are not abject failures. Or else someone better tell the state of Texas they fucked up. They lead the US in solar and wind power generation. Texas. There's a fucking oil company named after that state FFS. What are they missing?

You're right in that these changes usually are cyclical, although on a much larger time frame. We're supposed to be in a cooling phase right now and we're warming with really no known natural constraining factor, that's the reason climatologists are alarmed.

@Yorick re: this post,
It's not the planet that's in danger, it's us and the other living things on it with us that we depend on. And of course we should do what can be done.

There isn't even any evidence that "greening the economy" would be harmful to future prosperity so it's pretty silly to me to suggest there's no point in even trying if those other countries aren't.
when I went back and read it I saw immediately how I conveyed the wrong impression. There was no way for you to know I was trying to make two unrelated points connected only by "we should do what can be done" as a principle, while the point of my reply to you was really only the first sentence.

Just FTR.

Rest up, pal. I went to the gym, the dentist and took a nap. I'm exhausted. Plus I just found an old shoebox from my Dad's house after he passed. Among other things, he had 10 gold coins he bought in '85 for $98 an ounce. LOL.

Renewable energy accounts for roughly 20% of power in the US. Germany is leading in that area.

Still, 60% of electricity comes from fossil fuels, usually in the form of diesel generators.

Nuclear 18%, wind 10% and solar 3.9% respectively. Nuclear is clearly the most reliable, cleanest and safest energy source but people obsess over 3 mile island.

I'm all for pursuing renewable energy programs and protocols if done in a timely, responsible manner.

On a personal level, solar is a stretch for me. Average cost in my area is roughly $16-18 K. AND you still have to give PG&E a share. I don't think I'll live long enough to get my investment back.

I have two race cars and a turbo diesel RAM truck, but some of these new EV's are looking pretty tempting.

Cheers!

A line on a chart doesn't change physical reality. The emissions from a person in China are the same as the emissions from a person in Canada, although on average people in Canada emit about twice as much as people in China.

The idea that you're not contributing is simply not true and based on faulty logic.

Per capita is irrelevant. Total carbon is all that matters.

LOL at people emitting... emitting what? Farts?

The emissions from factories, power plants , etc, dwarf anything people "emit"

Except the bullshit you're emitting right now.
Imagine if they cared about how much the private jets pollution is that flies to the conference to discuss climate change or to do anything in that regard. Compared to a family's pollution.

There is more carbon in our atmosphere than ever before during the 165,000 year history of the human race.

Also, we aren’t vegetables, although, that point can be argued concerning some posters here.

How was it silly? My personal observations are invalid somehow? And you didn't 'show' anything at all, just a snide comment.

I'm a 'climate change' affirmer if anything. I merely said the phenomena was cyclical.

Fairly certain climatologists would support that statement.
It has big 'the climate has always changed bro' energy. Everyone knows the climate has changed, radically over the earth's history.
if there was a serial killer in my town I wouldn't dismiss every death as, people are always dying.

This is the most obvious scam I can remember in recent history. It's really just the covid scam all over again. Take something that is real, magnify it to make it seem like it's going to kill us all and then separate us from our money and freedom to "save the world".

We saw it with covid when corporations made record profits, lockdowns were enforced and unconstitutional vaccine mandates were pushed by our incompetent executive branch of the government. The same useful idiots that were on board with that will also be on board with the climate change scam.

It's really a masterclass in propaganda and brainwashing. They make narcissists think that they are righteous, empathetic and intelligent for believing in the scam and they make them think the rest of the population are just a bunch of selfish bumbling buffoons who are going to kill grandma, kill mother earth and destroy the world to protect "muh freedoms".

Rinse, wash and repeat what we went through with covid. Nearly all of these hardcore "trust teh science" covid guys are dead silent on how wrong they were about covid and they're jumping aboard the next scam as quickly as they can.

When you throw soup, I prefer beef barley.

And pretty clumsy analogy. The first implies intent the second does not. And besides I read the same analogy on Axios.

Thank you.

I'm with the right wing on a lot of issues but I'm kind of left wing when it comes to this. We should take care of the environment and do our best to reduce emissions.

Agreed...

But some of the proposed policies are complete dogshit.

Carbon credits?
Cutting Farming?
Forcing auto makers to go all electric?

Until they start embracing nuclear, we'll be spinning our wheels. There's no other source can put out the production required with almost no emissions.

But the world keeps pushing entire cities to go electric... houses, vehicles, etc... without anywhere close the infrastructure to support it.

Think demands are bad during the summer with A/C. Wait until entire high rises are being heated with electric instead of gas... especially up north.

And don't think we didn't see an entire city with dead EV vehicles because temperatures got too cold.

I agree.. keep pushing to make things cleaner. But don't force change when the technology isn't ready yet.

Or

Be willing to compromise... such as nuclear. The other renewables are great to subsidize production, but aren't reliable or produce enough. Or my hydro-electric dams which also help with water supply. Environmentalists refuse to compromise on anything. There has to be a compromise somewhere. Or status quo will maintain and everyone is pissed off.

And seriously, stop the fear mongering. Telling us every 10 years that the world is going to end in 10 years makes them look like complete idiots. They've been making the same doomsday claims since the 80's.

And for the love of god... Stop letting that retard Al Gore be the mouthpiece of climate change.

Laborers and street vendors in Mali find no respite as deadly heat wave surges through West Africa

Updated 3:07 AM BRT, April 19, 2024

BAMAKO, Mali (AP) — Street vendors in Mali’s capital of Bamako peddle water sachets, ubiquitous for this part of West Africa during the hottest months. This year, an unprecedented heat wave has led to a surge in deaths, experts say, warning of more scorching weather ahead as effects of climate change roil the continent.

The heat wave began in late March, as many in this Muslim majority country observed the holy Islamic month of Ramadan with dawn-to-dusk fasting.

On Thursday, temperatures in Bamako reached 44 degrees Celsius (111 Fahrenheit) and weather forecasts say it’s not letting up anytime soon.

The city’s Gabriel-Touré Hospital reported 102 deaths in the first four days of the month, compared to 130 deaths in all of April last year. It’s unknown how many of the fatalities were due to the extreme weather as such data cannot be made public under the regulations imposed by the country’s military rulers.

Cheikh A Traoré, Mali’s general director for health, said significantly more elderly people have died during this period although there were no statistics available due to the measures.

Mali has experienced two coups since 2020, leading a wave of political instability that has swept across West and Central Africa in recent years. Along with its political troubles, the country is also in the grip of a worsening insurgency by militants linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State group.

The Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre says that a lack of data in Mali and other West Africa countries affected by this month’s heat wave makes it impossible to know how many heat-related deaths there were but estimated that the death toll was likely in the hundreds if not thousands.

The heat is also endangering already vulnerable children in Mali — 1 million under the age of 5 were at risk of acute malnutrition at the end of 2023 due to protracted violence, internal displacement, and restricted access to humanitarian aid, according to the World Food Program.

Professor Boubacar Togo, head of pediatrics at Gabriel-Touré, told The Associated Press that the hospital has had six cases of meningitis in children in the last week, an unusually high number. He also added that there were many illnesses with diarrhea as a leading symptom. Togo did not elaborate or offer specific data.

To protect children from the worst of the heat, Mali’s military rulers have shortened the school day, to end before 1 p.m. instead of at 5.30 p.m. during the heat wave. But on the streets of Bamako, workers say they have no choice but to go out and brave the extreme heat.

“Either I work and risk my health or I stop working for the most of the day and I earn nothing,” said 25-year-old driver Amadou Coulibaly, who offers rides on his motorbike for a small fee.

With the political instability, many foreign investors are leaving Mali. Rolling power cuts and fuel shortages have forced companies to shut doors, exacerbating an already dire economic situation.

Despite the heat, 30-year-old welder Somaila Traoré worked in his shop alongside a dozen employees, urging them to work faster.

“We’ve got to finish the job before the power cuts,” he said.

An analysis published Thursday by the World Weather Attribution — an international team of scientists looking at how human-induced climate change impacts extreme weather — said the latest heat wave in the Sahel, a region in Africa south of the Sahara that suffers from periodic droughts, is more than just a Malian record-breaker.

“Our study found that the extreme temperatures across the region simply wouldn’t have been possible without human-caused warming,” said Clair Barnes, the lead author and a researcher at Imperial College London.

The researchers say climate change has made maximum temperatures in Burkina Faso and Mali hotter by 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) — something that may not have happened “if humans had not warmed the planet by burning fossil fuels.”

With sustained warming temperatures, the trend would continue, with similar events likely once every 20 years, the study said.

“This result is a warning for both the region and the world,” Barnes said. “Extreme heat can be incredibly dangerous and will become more of a threat as the world continues to warm.”

I know a guy who is a hardcore MAGA loon, he used to screech about doing violent things to Hillary Clinton and tough talk about a Civil War. When it came to the climate he was always ranting about "the Green Weenies"

He's currently driving a Prius

So, which is it? Global Cooling or Global Warming?

- I dont get the righ and left thing. THey seen to agree with all talking poiunts of a party. Instead of looking to politic as it should be, we analize and see with is more beneficial to us and our enviroment.

This one really bugs me. Ursula Van der Leyen took 24 trips of less than 20mins where she was the only passenger in her first 5 months EU commission president. She being the big cog in the wheel of the laws affecting European farmers.
