Colby was 7-1 in the UFC going into that fight. You're right, matching him up against Demian Maia in a main event slot would be a great signal of the UFC giving him a push.

Which is exactly why it wasn't promoted as the main event.

By contrast, despite getting dominated by Covington, Maia's very next fight was the main event against Usman. (Though in fairness, Maia was a last minute replacement for Ponzi).
