Social conservatives are angry that Alexander the great is being portrayed historically accurate..

Macedon wasn't a city state it was not a part of that collection of city states you refer to such as your Athens, Sparta, Thebes, Argos etc. And while Greeks were not a unified nation state the identity existed at that time.
Who cares.

Crete was an entirely different civilization with a different language, religion and origin. Despite all that, they are Greek.

Macedon has more going for it on that front.

Yes because Persia was a large multinational empire that would see the Greece as a conquered frontier province whereas the Macedonians were the frontier province conquering the civiliaztion to take it over akin to the Germanics coming into Rome. Not that its a 1/1 thing but a solid comp I think.
That doesn't really explain anything. If they are as foreign as you say they are, being the frontier province that did the conquering shouldn't make a difference. Did the Germans partake in the gladiatorial games after conquesting the Romans. I mean in what way are those two examples comparable?

You have this idea that ethnicity is determined by Olympic participation.

Anyway I'm aware the Greeks are completley unhinged on this issue. Not that todays Macedon is ancient Macedon it mostly isn't but Greeks didn't consider Macedonians Greeks then and now you try to rewrite history to claim your favorite sons.

You are arguing with someone who thinks he is closer related to Swedish people than the countries surrounding Greece because "reasons".

Gay no, bisexual for sure, in the way they understood bisexuality, meaning he sometimes fucked dudes in the ass but in his mind he was "normal" since he didn't get fucked. basically prison rules.
problem with adaptations like these is they tend to give a lot of time to this, and it makes sense because the netflix writers are often people whose sexuality is a very large part of their personality, therefore everybody must be like this. it looks like a low-level production anyway. just like that cleopatra horseshit, they try to get people to tune in by creating controversy.

No offense but what is your argument really?

Let's tally it up:
He spread Greek culture around the world, believed in the same gods, he and his father considered themselves hellenes, was in the same region as the rest of the Greeks, unified Greece (you don't do that if you're a foreigner)
competed in the Olympics, spoke Greek.

Greeks: yep, he's Greek.
You: Greeks are unhinged on this issue.

lol, sure bud. Color me not convinced.
You are arguing with someone who thinks he is closer related to Swedish people than the countries surrounding Greece because "reasons".
Are you referring to the time that I said Greek people are white on account of their white skin? Which didn't jive with you because you wanted to believe in the portrayal of foxy Cleopatra?

They didn't even have a concept of gay back then. Having sex with both sexes was normal and Alexander definitely did both. Who cares.

Seeing two men kiss draws the same reaction from men as seeing a load of maggots

They did a study apprantly
“In heterosexual men, pictures of rotting flesh, maggots and spoiled food induce the same physiological stress response as pictures of two men kissing each other. That is the surprising finding that was recently published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Psychology & Sexuality.”

The wiki article on this topic provides very flimsy evidence/rationale for Alexander possibly having male sexual relationships, mostly through inference (eg he didn’t have a wife for a long time)… why do you say he was certainly bisexual?

Being gay isn't central to who Alexander the Great was

But they need to stop showing gays kissing/sex scenes. Just mention it, don't show 2 dudes kissing. It is EXTREMELY off-putting to straight men. Gay kissing or sex scene can ruin an entire movie for a lot of people. And it's not homophobia.

The mere sight of two men being affectionate with each other in one scene eliciting such an emotional reaction it ruins an entire movie for someone is homophobia. That's like, exactly what homophobia is.

When are US conservatives not outraged? Rage porn and culture war are the 2 top US conservative traits

Why are conservatives mad at every single historical depiction of ancient Greece?

Alexander the great had sex with men. Facts don't care about your feelings.

He did a wife he wasn't just gay.

Considering this is coming from the same Netflix that race swapped Cleopatra black/African in a documentary.

The first wife of Alexander is called Roxana.

Pederastic relationships in Greece were based on a hierarchy of power. The older man of higher status had a teenager of lower social status "serve him" in exchange for social favour and receiving a higher social position. It was an exploitative rapport written inside a highly heteronormative viewpoint, that of bottom = woman = inferior. Basically an exchange, not equivalent to a male-female relationship. This kind of stuff would be classified as statutory rape today and would be illegal. It had nothing to do with the concept of an equal, loving relationship or liason where both parties were into it, like it is today. The Greeks had no concept of romantic love between men.

Nobody knows if Alexander was actually gay the way we construe it now. He probably wasn't. His supposed "gay companion" was of a profoundly lower social status. If he had sex with him, it would be seen as a symbolic act of dominance and opportunism, not love. As usual TV makers took something complex and tried to turn it into some sort of social commentary victory that isn't accurate.
It’s still some gay shit tho

There's the stories with hephaestion or bagoas. But maybe I've been psyoped cause I went looking now to find the source and it becomes less certain. So I guess I have to retract the certainly out of my claim. I am pretty sure intimacy in those times among men included some gay stuff. So while I think he probably fucked dudes, I can't prove this statement. On the phone so looking for sources is hard.

Ive always said that if seeing two men kiss doesn't induce a visceral disgust then you may not be a heterosexual man.
