to maybe get somewhere in this thread it's my understanding that Cuba had/has(?) a robust organic produce sector dur to being shut out of markets that produce fertilizers/GMOs etc

If I'm remembering correctly they had to overhaul their food production after the USSR collapsed due to losing their fertilizers

@AlexDB9 any thoughts on this topic? objectively that OP is embarrassing, but I'm willing to forget about it if you can share something useful from your experience

A) you don't tax a nation into prosperity, PERIOD
and B) not a single Communist of Socialist nation has ever been even remotely successful

You don't build an entire Western society on Globalism (the last 20-30 years), and then combat that by having the state run everything. Private investments, growth, and FDIs matter.....

I watched a documentary way back. Here's an article that outlines some of the same points

Cuban citizens started to grow crops on their balconies whilst farmers, left with no petrol or pesticides, were forced to resort to traditional methods to feed themselves. This started a true revolution: that of organic agriculture in Cuba.
