Elections Kari Lake pulling ahead

Kari Lake: ‘I believe I’m the only one who can win’ Arizona Senate race
BY JARED GANS - 07/15/23

Former Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake said she believes she is the only candidate who could win next year’s Arizona Senate race as she weighs whether to join the contest.

Lake said while commenting The Family Leadership Summit, a conservative, Christian conference held in Iowa, that she will decide whether she will run for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema’s (I-Ariz.) Senate seat in the next few months, potentially making a decision in the fall, NBC News reported.

But she said she thinks she is the only candidate who could win the seat.

“I’ve looked at the polling, to be honest, and I believe I’m the only one who can win that race,” Lake said Friday.

Lake has been a rumored candidate for the Senate seat for months following her loss to Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) in the governor’s race last November. Lake launched a lawsuit contesting the results following the election that was thrown out and has refused to concede her loss to Hobbs.

Her legal team was fined more than $120,000 on Friday after a federal court ruled that the lawsuit contesting the results in Maricopa County, the most populous in the state, was “frivolous.”

Lake has also been a steady supporter of former President Trump and reportedly was in consideration to be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election if he wins the Republican nomination.

“We have an opportunity to pick up a very important seat so that when President Trump gets back into office, he can have people in D.C. ready to back him up with this incredible agenda,” she said at the event.

A poll released in April showed Lake with a large lead over her potential GOP opponents for the nomination for Senate, garnering 38 support compared to 10 percent for the next-closest candidate.

But some Republican strategists have expressed concerns about the party’s electoral prospects if she is the nominee and continues to focus on false claims of voter fraud.

Sinema has not announced whether she will run for a second term. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has launched a bid for the Democratic nomination to succeed Sinema, who was originally elected as a Democrat but left the party to become an independent. Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is currently the only major Republican candidate in the race.

At this point I’m half convinced she’s a Democrat plant to make Republicans look as dumb as possible and lose potentially winnable races

To be fair, the agenda she is referring to is incredible.

Unfortunately that's because it's not credible.

Trump cultists are shameless rubes, and completely morons.

Kari Lake’s team ordered to pay more than $122K in sanctions over Maricopa lawsuit

Kari Lake’s legal team, including lawyer Alan Dershowitz, must pay $122,200 in sanctions after a federal court in Arizona found that the former Republican gubernatorial candidate’s lawsuit contesting voting methods was “frivolous.”

Lake, a former television news anchor, brought a suit against the state of Arizona in April 2022 demanding the election officials use alternative methods to collect and count ballots, claiming that electronic voting machines are not reliable.

The lawsuit was thrown out and Lake ultimately lost the gubernatorial election to Gov. Katie Hobbs. She then filed another suit after the election alleging widespread fraud. That case was also dismissed, though she continues make baseless claims that the race was stolen from her.

The $122,000 judgment, released Friday, will be paid by Lake’s three lawyers, Andrew Painter, Kurt Olson and Dershowitz. Dershowitz was found to have a limited involvement in the case and was ordered to pay only 10 percent of the order.

“Failing to impose meaningful sanctions here might very well encourage others to follow suit by lending their credibility to documents filed in court without facing any real consequence if their certifications prove hollow or incomplete,” Judge John Tuchi said in his ruling. “The need for general deterrence is therefore significant.”

I don't know a whole lot about this election. But, this just came out.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...lawful-signature-matching-process/ar-AA1glurB

Apparently, Arizona has been illegally counting votes for 2 election cycles as the signature must match and they didn't, but were counted anyways.
That’s a very inaccurate summary of this ruling and case, which is what happens when you use a trash source like that. I’ll give some case facts and then my opinion.

For people who want Cliffs:
AZ was NOT “counting ballots even though signatures didn’t match.” When they were unsure if it was a match, they looked to see if they had other samples of the voter’s signature in their voter file, and if they did, they looked at those as well. Having a larger sample size of signatures is of course useful when comparing signatures. The issue in this case is whether they were allowed to look at those other signature samples.

Firstly, this judge was not ruling on the case itself; there had been a motion to dismiss, and he was only ruling on that. This case not been litigated yet.

In this case, 2 right wing lobbyist-type groups (one of them founded by Bill Barr and Karl Rove) and a voter are suing the AZ Sec of State.

At issue is the statute ARS 16-550, which states that the signature on a mail in ballot is to be compared to the voter’s “registration record.” If they aren’t sure if it’s a legit signature, they are to reach out to the voter and the voter has 5 days to verify the signature.

The term “registration record” is not defined anywhere in AZ state law, so the Sec of State used the powers granted to him in ARS 16-452(A) to define it. He defined it quite broadly, and included things like polling place roster signatures, or other previous requests for a mail-in ballot. The plaintiffs in the case, and the judge in this ruling, are basically saying that “registration record” only means signatures from the voter registration form that the voter used.

My opinion: From a technical standpoint, I can see where plaintiffs/judge are coming from. It wouldn’t surprise me if they won the case. But that would really be a shame, and the best solution imo is to change AZ law to be clear, and have it align with what the Sec of State and Elections Board has already been doing. I don’t live in AZ anymore, but I am a native Arizonan, I was born and raised there. I’ll give you an example of how this scenario could play out.

When I was a teenager, the Motor Voter law was in effect, so I registered to vote when I was like 16. I am now in my mid-40s and my signature has changed quite a bit over the past 30 years. So if I voted by mail in AZ, they might think my current signature is inconsistent with my registration record.
But in my voter file, they could have several other signatures from polling place rosters, and they might see that I’ve requested mail-in ballots 4 other times and they have my signature from those requests, and so they may have a dozen signatures of mine through the years in which they can see how my signature evolved, and they can easily determine that the ballot is legitimate.

FYI, mail-in ballots have been in use in AZ since 1991, when they passed a law that any voter could request one without needing to give a reason. This was a popular law at the time, which passed with bipartisan support and was signed into law by a Republican governor. This was back in the days before the GOP had completely lost their minds.

I don’t think it’s accurate at all to say “they’re illegally counting ballots where the signatures didn’t match,” that’s just not true at all. This seems like yet another attempt by right wingers to make it harder for mail-in ballots to be counted, and could unnecessarily disenfranchise voters who don’t verify their signatures in time. It seems like what AZ was doing is going the extra mile to make sure the ballots have legitimate signatures while also taking care not to disenfranchise voters.

Kari Lake, Trump supporting MAGA Trash and election denier, will launch US Senate campaign in Arizona

PHOENIX (AP) — Republican Kari Lake, a Donald Trump ally who has refused to acknowledge her loss in last year’s race for Arizona governor, will soon launch her campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by independent Kyrsten Sinema, a senior adviser said Thursday.

Lake’s entrance in one of next year’s top Senate contests likely complicates Republican efforts to nominate candidates with a broader appeal after a disappointing showing for the party in last year’s midterms. She will enter the race as the front-runner for the GOP nomination.

Caroline Wren, a senior adviser to Lake, confirmed that she will open her campaign with an Oct. 10 rally. The Wall Street Journal first reported the news.

A charismatic former television anchor who is well known in the Phoenix market, Lake built an enthusiastic following among Republicans with her unflinching support for Trump and her steadfast promotion of false claims of election fraud.

Lake’s star power stretches far beyond Arizona. Lake is seen as a potential running mate for Trump, who is leading polls for the Republican presidential nomination.

The Arizona race is a top target for Republicans looking to regain the Senate, where Democrats hold a 51-49 edge that includes Sinema, who left the Democratic Party in 2022 but still receives her committees assignments from Democrats. The 2024 Senate map heavily favors the GOP, with Democratic-held seats up for grabs in three states that Trump won in 2020.

Courts have repeatedly rejected Lake’s lawsuits challenging last year’s election results. The litigation has juiced Lake’s fundraising but not advanced her false claim to be the “duly elected governor” Arizona, rather than Democrat Katie Hobbs.

Lake joins Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in the Republican Senate primary. Several other Republicans have considered running but have stayed out of the race while Lake considered her plans. They include Blake Masters, Jim Lamon and Karrin Taylor Robson, all businesspeople who lost 2022 races for Senate or governor.

U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego, an Iraq War veteran and one of the most prominent Latino officials in Arizona, is the only major Democrat in the race.

Sinema is raising money for a potential reelection campaign and is stepping up her public appearances in Arizona, but she has said she’s in no hurry to decide whether to seek a second term in the Senate. Her party switch came after she had infuriated many Democrats who saw her as too close to business interests and an impediment to progressive change.

Lake’s presence in the race could help Sinema if she chooses to mount an independent campaign for reelection. Lake alienated many establishment Republicans during her campaign for governor, even telling “McCain Republicans” to “get the hell out” of a campaign event, describing the late and beloved Arizona Sen. John McCain a “loser.”

To win, Sinema will need to win over a sizable chunk of Republicans and Democrats along with a majority of independents.

Until Trump’s presidency, Arizona had been a reliably Republican state since World War II. Republicans still maintain a registration edge over Democrats, but the GOP lost three consecutive Senate races and last year watched Democrats win the top state offices over a slate of Trump-endorsed election deniers, including Lake.

The state is emblematic of the party’s struggles to win over suburban voters turned off by Trump. In Lake’s loss last year, 11% of voters who identified as Republicans backed Hobbs, including 25% of Republicans who identified as moderate or liberal, according to AP VoteCast, an expansive survey of more than 3,200 voters in Arizona.

Democrats posted surprising success in last year’s Senate races despite a tough economic picture and an unpopular Democratic president after voters rejected Trump-backed Republican nominees in battleground states, including Arizona. Republicans in Washington have pledged to take a more active posture in primaries next year, hoping to ensure the party nominates candidates who can win in November.

GOP officials in Washington have taken a wait-and-see approach to the Arizona race, viewing Lake as the odds-on favorite to win the primary but fearing the serious baggage she would carry into a general election.

apparently this fine heap of maga trash is not tired of all of this losing! she must have so much faith in the election system that she believes that she can win.

i guess she doesnt want anything to do with being a governor anymore. that job just isnt for her so she has no interest in persuing it anymore.now the former tv news anchor is chasing her life's dream of becoming a US state senator, and maybe even diaper don's sidepiece one day. now where do i go to give her all of my money to save arizona?
