Kentucky Derby and Beyond (Part Deuce)

Haha, I wish Shark!

I was actually at Saratoga this past Saturday for the first time since 2019. I hit the exacta on the first race, trifecta on the second and W/P on the third. I was feeling pretty good about myself, but unfortunately it was all down hill from there. By the time the rain started (around race 7 or 8 I think?), my winnings were pretty much gone. Still a fun day though, and I ended up essentially breaking even so definitely no complaints.

It looks like I'm going to miss Travers day completely, but best of luck to you guys if you're betting any of the races!

Sounds like a great time, T, even if your day ended on a bit of a down turn. And breaking even at the track is better than most who were there that day, so you had that going for you. Nice job on the early success.

Thanks for the good luck wishes as well. We could all use some for sure.

Speaking of 2019, I can't be the only one who's enthusiasm for betting has taken a major hit over the last couple of years with all the shit going on everywhere can I? Just too much stuff going on.

100% with ya Shark. I think there's a few different factors going into it for me, but at this point I'm betting maybe 1-2 fights total a month and I can't even remember the last time I played the horses before this past weekend.

Everything is cyclical though and I'm sure we'll both get back into it before too long.

Same T. A lot of factors have gone into my lack of interest as well and nothing has really lit the spark to get back into it either. I've still found some excitement to play the bigger races and still watch racing on the occasional day without playing. But I've barely bet anything at all since this whole thing started. Maybe tomorrow's card is a step towards that as it's one of my favourite racing days. Who knows, though.

Yep, six of them.

G1 Travers
G1 Sword Dancer
G1 Personal Ensign
G1 King's Bishop
G1 Forego
G1 Ballerina

Sounds like a day.

If anybody is into the multi-race bets, this sequence here is one of only two times a year (I do believe) where you can play a pick-6 that includes all G1 races. Not sure I will myself since those have never been my thing and this one could be chalking out. But possible if I can keep it really skinny and if I can avoid using at least a few favourites.

Twitter all up in arms with what happened to the 4/5 favourite at the start here;

By the rules, yeah, it wasn't the right decision and the horse should've been declared a non-starter. But what's worse? The lack of call by the stewards? Or accepting the short 4/5 price on the horse in the first place? :confused:

My apologies for my lack of sympathy. :D

And then the big 4/5 favourite finishes off the board in the 8th at Saratoga. That's unfortunate. :(:)

Just finished up crunching the numbers for tomorrow's G1 races at Saratoga if anyone is interested in playing along. Or even playing against for some extra fun. I'll only include the top 4 for now, though, to keep it simple;

----------

Race 7 (Ballerina);

#1 - 110.2, #2 - 108.4, #7 - 108.0, #6 - 107.7

-----

Race 8 (Forego);

#8 - 110.2, #2 - 109.9, #1 - 109.0, #7 - 108.6

-----

Race 9 (King's Bishop)*

#2 - 108.1, #6 - 107.6, #1 - 107.2, #3 - 104.3

* It's called the Jerkens now officially, but hey.

-----

Race 10 (Personal Ensign);

#6 - 110.4, #1 - 110.0, #4 - 108.7, #8 - 108.6

-----

Race 11 (Sword Dancer);

#3 - 105.5, #2 - 105.5, #7 - 105.1, #1 - 104.4

-----

Race 12 (Travers);

#2 - 110.4, #6 - 107.5, #1 - 107.2, #3 - 106.0

----------

The G2 Charles Town Classic (Race 12 at Charles Town) is coming up in less than an hour (10:18 EST), so I threw together some numbers for that race as well;

#3 - 107.8, #8 - 107.8, #1 - 107.6, #6 - 107.3

May take a small stab at the best price of these four since they're all bunched together and then I have separation after them.

Based on the will pays so far in race 11 the #8 Art Collector is looking like he'll be a heavy favourite in this race here. May keep it simple if that ends up being the case and just boxing the 1, 3, and 6 in the exacta and win betting the best price of the three hoping I can beat the 8 out.

Playing the 3 to win and then a 1, 3, 6 exacta box. Very small. $10 total. :cool:

Playing a really thin pick-6 in these races for $1 ($8 total) and I feel incredibly yucky inside for doing so just because of how short some of the prices will be;

1 / 2, 8 / 2 / 1, 6 / 2, 3 / 2

:(:rolleyes:

I'm sure I'll be playing against myself in some of these races, though, with individual win bets.

One of the craziest things I've ever seen at the track;

I was on Firenze Fire (8/1) in this one too and it looked like he was going to win the race before losing his mind. <45>

2, 6, 4, 1 in the King's Bishop. Great race between the top two!

The #1 Dunbar Road is going to be a big longshot coming up in race 10.
