A defense attorney will use whatever angle they can to advance their client's case. This is the angle he concluded was the best to portray his client's situation with i.e. take the heat off and blame Trump. It's very unlikely to be an accurate portrayal of how the client feels about the situation. Logic 101 brah.

Prosecutors have sought Pezzola's detention, pointing to his destruction of a Capitol window with a police riot shield, which was captured in images of the riots. They say Pezzola was among the first of the insurrectionists to breach the Capitol and accused him of conspiring and coordinating his actions with others.

"Given the combination of the defendant’s actions on that day, his professed intentions to commit additional violence, and his access to the means to carry out that violence in a largely undetectable way, there are simply no conditions nor combinations of conditions of release that can assure the safety of the community if the defendant is released," prosecutors wrote to the court last month.

Oddly enough, considering how much they complain about it, I believe they've watched too many Hollywood movies. Probably wanted to carry Trump there on their shoulders and thought Trump might give a really moving speech - like Bill Pullman gave in Independence Day! Except instead of killer aliens it would be DEMONcrats!!!!
