This is a topic I fondly recall Mayberry helping with in years past. Sadly since software constantly changes, I went through some old threads on the topic and realized they were horribly outdated.
Just got a slick new Desktop (first in 5 years) and would love some advice on which adblock to use, what programs to download, and so forth.
What do you consider invaluable to your computing?
I'll be mostly using this with dual monitors and tons of browser windows to simultaneously stream video and do work.

Chrome with Ublock Origin and Disconnect (add ons)
VLC player (maybe Acestream too)
Kaspersky Free (unless you pay for AV)
Spotify Desktop (cracked if need it)
Of course Office and a (light) PDF viewer for work (no need to have Adobe)

You in to games?

Get Monster Hunter for PC. Never played it on PC but I imagine its gotta be badass.

Nah not tryna get into more games; if I do it will only be ones that friends already play so that I can keep in touch from afar.

i use firefox, but many use chrome.

if you get firefox, adblock plus and noscript are the best things. noscript takes some getting used to to use well. there are also a number of privacy settings within the browser that you should adjust, as well as privacy settings in windows itself.

there's really very little i have installed on my pc nowadays

Use Tixati if you are going to torrent anything

VLC
Bitdefender if you need security suite
ScreentoGif

This group from Piriform
