Tech PEB's Motion Simulator thread (for Racing Games and Flight Simulation)

Roof almost done today for my garage workshop for some interesting new motion technology. The additional space will come in handy as well as a higher ceiling will come in handy. Still have a ton of work left to do.

Yeah, its why i stopped. Hardware cost was ridiculous. Setup i needed to just continue competing was in the 2.5K+ range in 2007.
Update long overdue PS5 going to be receiving amazing direct drive wheels from biggest names in high end simulator business. People like Fanatec an rumored Thrustmaster direct drive wheel an pedals. This is due to Polyphony Digital taking a financial sake in the companies. At least how I read it an will push for sub 400 racing wheels an sub. 80.00 dollar pedals.

This is a wild video with Beam-NG running on 3 monitor motion rig cost 100k to build. I have posted Beam videos in the past. They have made huge improvements on Beam but Beam head no fan of VR.

I had my friend over who is 6'8" inches tall to see how well he fit in the simulator. He is a former stock car racer. He liked it though he thought the steering wheel was to sensitive. But other then that liked it. He said you could feel all the road defects and even gravel on the road. This is Forza Horizon 4.

Been sometime since I provided an update on my motion simulator workshop been tied up with home remodeling. Here it is currently will finish painting cleaning but bringing in new equipment. Got a fancy workshop bench that weights over 140 lbs but looks amazing.

 
This is not confirmed by any source but something starting to come together. Grand Turismo 7 will have support for Fanatec FF CSL DD an D1 series wheels.

Recently GT7 developers announced to be working with others developing a line of products around GT7.

Things are starting to shape up for literally high net worth individuals to have full motion simulators running on PS5 GT7 gaming.

Aston Martin development of their own simulator an Porsche developing one based on the cockpit of the Mission R. Porsche is being really quiet about what this simulator is related to but would be a great addition to this move.

This thing is serious stuff 4 actuators with seat belt tightening drive motor to simulate g-forces an looks like air bladders for the seat back more g-force related stuff. Your looking at at least a 150k simulator.

Realistic race training on the simulator
The Mission R’s seat, steering wheel, controls, adjustable pedals and screens form a compact unit and sit on one axis, the driver’s axis. In this way, the driver can concentrate on the essentials in the race. At the same time, this driver module construction enables the use of a second driver’s cell outside the Mission R as a racing simulator.

With the help of movable, electrically controlled supports, the dynamic forces that act on the driver can be simulated – for example when braking or the lateral inclination when cornering quickly. Thanks to a familiar environment with identical display and control elements and the same full bucket seat, such a training would be particularly realistic and highly efficient.

Additively manufactured, ventilated full bucket seat
The full bucket seat offers a high level of protection for the driver. At the same time, it has an innovative structure and is partially manufactured additively as a so-called 3D bodyform full shell seat. The seat shell is made of the same natural fiber-reinforced material as the exterior attachments. The middle section of the seat, i.e. the cushion and backrest mirror, comes in part from a 3D printer.

Porsche initially presented this alternative to conventional upholstery for bucket seats in 2020 as a concept study and tested it in a test phase with selected customers. As part of the new Performance Parts range, the 3D Bodyform full bucket seat is now available from Porsche Tequipment for all 911 and 718 models for which the current full bucket seat (order number Q1K) is available. From February 2022, it can also be ordered ex-works and will then be integrated into the Porsche Car Configurator.

With the concept study 3D Printed Bodyform Full Bucket Seat for the 3D printed lattice seats, the company is presenting an innovative alternative to conventional upholstery for bucket seats.

In the Mission R, the driver’s seat is actively ventilated and covered with breathable fabric, which is made in a resource-saving 3D knitting process. The 3D printed lattice structure also contributes to a good seating climate. These black, coarse-meshed elements are located, among other things, at the transition between the cushion
Maximum driver orientation is the Mission R’s credo. The main displays and controls are located on one axis. This reduces distraction and contributes to better driver performance through faster reactions. The information is hierarchically clustered in three levels:

The 6-inch multifunction OLED racing display has the highest priority. It sits directly between the control horns of the steering wheel and is therefore in the driver’s immediate field of vision. Important data such as speed, lap time, tire pressures or state of charge (SoC) are displayed here. Information on ABS and traction control can also be found there.


A second screen is attached to the steering column behind it. Its curved shape is reminiscent of the large central display of the Taycan. Here, the information from the two external cameras is combined into one image. Through this digital rearview mirror, the driver can see what is happening next to and behind his racing car. A third, centrally rear-facing camera is installed under the rear window. If radar sensors and cameras detect an impending collision in the race, the Collision Avoidance System (CAS) indicates this by means of colored markings on the edges of the race display.

To the right of the driver and inclined towards him, there is a control panel with buttons and a screen is integrated. It forms the third information level. The pilot’s biometric data is visualized there. This includes, for example, his body temperature, determined by sensors in the seat.

Live stream transmission from the interior
Two cameras on the roof frame and on a running rail on top of the passenger side follow what is happening in the interior during a race in real time. The moving images can be transmitted directly to the community using a live stream button on the control panel. The fans can, in turn, communicate directly with the driver, for example by sending him likes.

Motorsport equipment such as a six-point belt, length-adjustable pedals, safety nets and an extinguishing system are of course also on board. A new feature is the combination of helmet holder and ventilation. In the Mission R, the helmet can be attached to a special holder in the position where the passenger’s headrest would be in series vehicles. During a break from racing, it is first disinfected here and then dried.


When it comes to ventilating the interior, Porsche has come up with something special: fresh air enters the car directly through an adjustable inlet in the windshield. A very efficient and therefore sustainable solution compared to conventional designs with radial fans and long routes for air ducting from the front of the vehicle into the interior.

A second seat can be installed on the passenger side for taxi rides. In the footwell there are the control units combined to form an electronic module, including the cooler. The driver’s drinking bottle is also integrated there. The expansion tanks for battery coola

Gran Turismo and Fanatec Will Partner Up to Develop New Racing Game Peripherals

Polyphony Digital and Fanatec have announced a new partnership that will see the peripheral manufacturer create new products for the Gran Turismo racing game series.


In an official release, the two brands commented that they will be working together to develop new, officially licensed Gran Turismo products with advanced force feedback technology, to “reduce the distinction between sim racing and real-world racing”.

The partnership represents a shift in technology for Gran Turismo, from the current belt-driven wheels to the direct drive wheels that Fanatec is pioneering across the sim-racing spectrum.

Fanatec will become the third wheel peripheral manufacturer to officially partner with Gran Turismo. Logitech was the first, producing the original GT Force wheel for Gran Turismo 3 in 2001, right through to the Driving Force GT for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Thrustmaster followed, with the T500 RS and T300 RS as the official wheels of Gran Turismo 5 and 6, and the T-GT for GT Sport.

It’s not the first association that Fanatec has had with Gran Turismo however. A technical fault during the 2019 Gran Turismo World Tour in Tokyo saw Thrustmaster withdraw its T-GT wheel temporarily, with Fanatec stepping in to provide CSL Elite wheels to the competitors.


The news comes shortly after a leak yesterday of a potential new Gran Turismo-branded Fanatec wheel. Interestingly, Fanatec has commented on its official blog that, as with previous GT wheels, Polyphony Digital will be responsible for the “industrial design”, adding some credence to the images we saw yesterday.

While Fanatec has yet to officially announce any products from the partnership, it is expected to reveal a version of the CSL DD direct drive wheel specifically for PlayStation 4 and 5, and has also revealed it will make a first product announcement “in a couple of weeks” with production starting this year.

That won’t be an end of it however, as Fanatec also suggests it has “bigger plans” to come, and whatever it reveals in the coming days will simply be the first to come from the partnership.

It’s the latest announcement in what has been a busy year for Fanatec. The brand not only sponsors the 2021 GT World Challenge, it also hosts the first virtual race series that generates real-world points within that competition. It’s also revealed gaming peripherals that double up as real steering wheels, for the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 and the Bentley Continental GT Pikes Peak.
