My cohort when I was doing fine dining was second-generation German, had family all in the region and when we had Spätzle on the menu he insisted upon making it, but I thought was like a hokey "supposedly irish family making corned beef" thing.

Grandad used to mock my nan for how much margarine she lathered on his lunchtime sandwich. Said he was sick of having to pick the slice of ham up off carpet every time he took a bite.

Dad says it were cuz she was the only woman in her house growing up during war and all the butter rations went to her brothers.

Read an interesting article on an artisan baker from Germany who uses lye to get a dark lacquer on loaves.

Guy's family have been bakers for generations. Many top restaurants pleaded with him to open more bakeries in Cities but he's happy staying put where he's at.

Liz's old firm had box seats. Went a few times without them and tix were like $50-60 a pop. This was back in late 90s/early noughts when you could get Angels tix for $7 and they were contending for the title.

Got to see the Rockies vs Yankees and Braces back in 2006/2007 for $4 during their World Series run. The Rock Pile tickets were cheaper than the ball park beers. It was fantastic.
