Private Sherdog betting pool

You raise valid points. Maybe P2P betting makes more sense, and websites implementing that technology already exist.

Sort of. The ones I've seen continue to do sportsbook like odds setting, the reason being that this is the only way to make big profits. Furthermore, of course, they're not exclusive to Sherdog, so you'll be betting against all kinds of professionals who do this for a living.

It's technically possible yes.

Then next question is, how much would such a system cost? How much would the betting fee be?

I would have to investigate, but as an initial rough estimate I might guess 1-2 cents per dollar bet, as opposed to 8-10 cents per dollar bet for the online sportsbooks.

Yeah but the idea of betting lines changing dramatically is very unattractive. At least with fixed odds you know what you'll get if you win. That said, it's likely that the distributions will resemble the bookies betting odds anyway. But I'd have to see data on that. Have you seen systems like this work elsewhere?

It's definitely an interesting idea.

Yes, as mentioned previously, this kind of betting system has existed for hundreds of years, and is currently widely in use, often in places where the market is set up by entities that aren't as interested in profit, like governments. You can read more about it on Wikipedia.

As some examples:
  • It is used to bet on horse racing in Hong Kong, through the Hong Kong Jockey Club, a monopoly set up by the government.
  • It is used to bet on horse racing in France, through the Pari Mutuel Urbain (PMU) agency, also controlled by the government.
I feel it is often the betting system of choice for governments because governments are not as interested in maximizing profit as they are in setting up a system where the general public can have fun betting without getting taken by professionals.

It would be illegal.
But outside of that, go for it.

"like count to post rate"

so you want only people who post in the first page of every thread to be able to even try?

It would be as illegal as your office pool is illegal. And if somehow defying all logic it becomes big, then there will be enough money to make it officially legal I'm sure.

Besides, Sherdog's always been a rebel.

Why are there entry requirements? Don't you want noobs to enter?

I do want anyone who seriously participates in Sherdog to enter. I don't want some professional bettor who creates a Sherdog account to make money off of people who are just betting for fun to enter.

This is one of the big reasons I think a private Sherdog pool would be better for Sherdoggers than the big sports books, because there you're betting against both professional bettors and the sportsbook's own team of researchers, and are very unlikely to be able to make money in the long run.

I see why you are worried. :D

Is this high or low?

I post on my mobile/white skin, so i don't see any of the stats/post count/join date/etc and don't care for belts

most of my posts are from long before this second e-penis started

it's just kinda obvious that most people don't even read past page 1, so they won't interact

mostly it's just TS replying to get bumps
