I don't understand why they don't get serious with PSNow.
There's been rumors about a "counterpunch" to Game Pass, but the latest rumor I saw talked about balling up all this dumb shit that has nothing to do with gaming into a single entertainment service. Hopefully it isn't that because that's such a garbage idea.
Just make PSNow viable! The only reason I can surmise why Sony is hesitant to do this is because accommodating the PC is accommodating Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft is their competitor. Every PC sale ultimately delivers a cut to Microsoft. Cool, I get that. So why not go all-in with Linux? Sony could become the force that finally, truly pushes Linux into the mainstream so that developers don't ignore it. Steam would love them for it. They would ignore Sony's partnership with their rival Epic out of interest for this common goal.
Now
that would really make Microsoft shit bricks. That's not threatening a crop. That's threatening the whole farm.
Priorities
- End the requirement to subscribe to PS Plus to access the service on PC. This is by far the most important measure.
- End this streaming-only crap for games that exist on PC. Let gamers download the game. Then show Microsoft up and give them folder control for each individual game's installation.
- Enable the app on PC to integrate with stores like Steam and Epic so that users may use their respective services (i.e. friends lists, chat, mods, etc).
- Increase the streaming resolution to 1080p for games which must be rendered on Sony servers & streamed (because they are Playstation exclusives with no PC port).
- Implement the same discount to games for permanent ownership to those who are subscribed that Microsoft does for Game Pass. Afford dual ownership to games that exist on both Playstation and PC for this. If you buy it on PC, you own it on Playstation, and vice versa.
- For gamers on both platforms who do also subscribe to PS Plus, extend Playstation Plus giveaways for multiplatform games that exist on PC to that platform for PSNow subscribers. Maybe go ahead and bundle PS Plus and PSNow into an "Ultimate" tier like Microsoft does for Game Pass. Difference is there could be two "Ultimate" tiers. One tier bundles both services on Playstation alone. The highest tier bundles them on Playstation and PC.
Don't tell me that 6-point plan doesn't get your dick diamond hard.
Don't buy on Epic. Don't let Tencent and China win. They think they can buy us with the free games. I've been happy to collect those, but that's the end of it.
Use them. Exploit them. Suck up every ounce of free capital they're willing to squander until they realize there won't be a return.
Beyond that, I appreciate the competition they've brought, which has been good to incentivize Steam to share more profits with developers, but that's just another silver lining. Long term, they'll never be anything other than a puppet who answers directly to an authoritarian Chinese government, and as soon as that government believes Epic has achieved enough influence to project CCP interests & values, they won't hesitate to leverage that.
