As someone who loves practical effects, I don't think enough credit is given to how incredible Grogu is. They could have easily just made a CG character that looked terrible but went all out with a puppet that totally looks and feels real and has emotion. I'm sure there's some touch up CG done here and there but the overall effect is amazing. One of the best puppets I've ever seen in any movie and even surpasses Yoda.

Just watched the finale again - did anyone else catch that Gideon holds his gun up to his chin and tries to off himself before Gina knocks it away and KO's him? Definitely a bitch move and pretty much relegates him to low level villain status. Interesting that he earlier ordered his ship commander to off his co-pilot and crash the ship, who also then offed himself Hydra poison pill style when Bo Katan tried to question him.

I dont think it was a bitch move at all. It meant he would rather die than be captured.

I wonder how long it takes for Grogu/Yoga’s race to mature? Could Grogu still essentially be a lil tyke by the events of episodes 7-9?

Well Yoda died at 900 years old
And Yoda at 50 comes off as 2 or 3 yr old
So if you go by that its not too tough to figure out..but him being an alien means he can mature however they feel like it.

Philosophical interpretation aside, SW plotwise it pretty much confirms he's not a big bad.

Exactly, it implies there's some real big bad out there who's so intimidating and important these guys would rather off themselves than be forced to give up information on him.

We all know that in the SW universe, big bads can only die by falling down bottomless pits and/or being impaled by a Jedi. They're definitely not going out by their own hand.

I imagine an expanded budget and a big ole war. How Baby Yoda comes back is the question. I still think that when Mando discovers he gave his boy to the son of Darth Vader he’s going to try to get him back.

Whatever they do for Mando Season 3, if Baby Grogu ain't in it, I'm gonna have a huge hissyfit. I wanna see the tiny guy do some feats of agility.

Never got into the EU stuff so don't know much about Thrawn. But from comments itt, he sounds like a badass. However, isn't he a Grand Admiral so military chain of command? IIRC Gideon and the other Moffs and Grand Moffs are separate civilian CoC formerly directly under Palps. So would it make any sense during this time period for Gideon or other Moffs/Grand Moffs to be directly subordinate under Thrawn?

All that done by one guy for fun, and within just the last year.

With Disney's budget, processing power/render farms (deepfakes are incredibly processor intensive), and a small pool of talented people, they could EASILY deepfake the handful of scenes a year that Luke would be in.

This list above is over 6 hours of deepfaked scenes (with pretty much constant deepfaking required, since the "actress" is shown throughout) all done by one guy. To put that into perspective, that's more runtime than an entire season of The Mandalorian. Now figure Luke would only be in a small fraction of scenes, at most it'd be <30 minutes of necessary deepfaking. That's an EASY thing for Disney to do, and certainly well within budget.

Hell, a couple years ago there were deepfakes made by people in their spare time that totaled >2TB of files. IIRC at that point it was somewhere around 500 files and a total runtime somewhere over 50 hours. And that was back when the technology was infantile, and was done by solo people using just their home computers (i.e. not render farms and not a team of people). And that's just the files that were posted to one forum.

TL/DR:
A handful of people using today's tech, and the rendering resources of a render farm (render house), it'd be very easy to deepfake Luke.
