To be fair 1-13 in rankings isn't the worst HW division ever. HW has never been stacked really until the Pride/UFC/Strikeforce convergence that happened once. Not to mention that era wasn't exactly long lasting.

The Cain, JDS, Werdum, Brock, Alistair, Hunt, Bigfoot Silva era wasn't too bad IMO. There was alot of fight of the year's chocked in there everytime they fought.

They were decent for sure. I think alot of it is pre-usada (2015 and before) HWs were most effected by the ped ban for recovery. We really are missing the athleticism from those days. Even Pride was pretty top heavy at HW. Most guys who are big and athletic will attempt other sports that pay well even if you're 3rd string NFL.

The division is not even close to the worse. The top 10 is actually strong and the top 5 matches up against any top 5 from the other divisions. HW lacks depth beyond the top 10. But what do you expect?? The division has far less fighters.

HW in any combat sport is going to have the lower talent pool simply because it's a rarity to be that big.

There has only been small windows in time that a HW division in one org was great.

It's just the way it is. Guys that big and athletic probably found success in more fruitful sports if they were even attracted to sports. Side note, you'd be surprised how many of these big dudes walking around in society are really just teddy bears. A real fight is the last thing on their minds. Their whole life their sheer size made people fear them but the truth is many of them would never engage in a fight. Which is true with most of the population no matter the size. It just so happens that the average man isn't 6'5 and 260lbs. So it is by far the smallest pool to draw from and find someone crazy enough to get in cage and fight for a living. It really is just numbers thing at the end of the day of why HW is so weak and always has been.
