UFC fighters complaining about their contract makes no sense

The average mma fighters goes from making nothing in the amateurs to 1000 bucks in the pro smaller leagues to signing a start off contract of potentially making 24 grand & also maybe a 50,000 fotn or potn bonus in 1 night thats a come up lol
Football players go from making $0 to as high as 35 million before you've even played a single professional game. You could be terrible too and it doesn't even matter. You're making that 35 million.

What makes less sense is to continue doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Do you believe in merit based reviews?

Have you ever had/heard of a job that every time you go to your boss and ask for a raise he just gives it to you because you think you deserve more money?

If the average ufc fighter makes 3x what an average boxer makes should you pay him NBA money?
Lol

Hey look everyone,this guy's comparing prize fighting to a 9 to 5

Almost every aspiring or up and coming fighter I know has the goal of making it to the UFC. Then there are some who understand the logistics of making money in the fight game.

Some fighters are smart enough to realize that they will be fighting for peanuts until they make a name for themselves and aren’t willing to take a pay cut from being a regional star for the chance that they might make it big. On the other hand most think that the UFC is all about getting exposure because the UFC is the biggest platform and in the even they make it they will make more money in the long run.

The thing is that when you sign a UFC contract you are accepting those terms hoping you will eventually make those big bucks and agreeing to their terms. Nobody forces you to agree, you agree because you want to fight in the UFC, you could go elsewhere but choose not to. So when someone like Francis who now wants to make even more money than he agreed was acceptable under the terms with the UFC it makes no sense.

I agree

When UFC fighter pay as a % of revenue trails far behind all other major sports, there's a problem.

When PVZ makes vastly more money on Onlyfans than fighting, there's a problem.
She was maybe just above average as a fighter and got a huge platform via fighting in the UFC. She is pretty attractive and made a name for herself. It was only after that (and enhancing her breasts) when she took off to OF and people threw their money at her.

OF is full of girls willing to show themselves naked for money. In fact, the whole internet is full of naked girls and stuff. You don't even need to pay! So I'd say she needs to thank the UFC for the opportunity to make the money she makes now.

Yeah it makes NO SENSE why someone would try to get more money. BAFFLING.
Yes but they signed the contract. They could bargain a contract with less fights on it to renegotiate sooner. They also know this isn't NFL or NBA where a top talent holding out actually hurts the owner's pocket book. So they really have no room to complain. If you want to bet on yourself then sign a 2 or 3 fight contract. But most fighters don't have that faith (or the balls) in themselves so they sign longer deals then complain when they move up the ranks. You don't see fighters going 2-2 on a 5 fight deal complaining

I agree, most adults know this. But a lot of people who post here never signed a contract or made a mortgage payment so they just side with what “feels” right rather that using common sense and thinking it through like grownups.

I imagine many fighters are similar.

Yes it does. Ufc has the monopoly on branding and (not always) but upper tier pay.

It’s one thing to sign a contract and then complain about it, but Francis is doing this the right way as he’s fulfilled his current contract and is now holding as much leverage as possible (the undisputed HW belt) to negotiate his next. Even the champion clause can only extend the contract up to five years from the first fight on the contract. Ngannou’s first fight on his current contract was UFC 220, four years ago, so one year from now he is free to do what he want.

Isn't this the same thing with teachers, truck drivers, and every other job out there?
