You know he was a ref because he had been training with the Gracies, as they had been working with cops, for a good while? I forget how long, but he was mid level by then, and he definitely understood submissions. He wanted to compete and they wouldn't let him.

I asked John on Twitter during a Q and A how he would have gone, he said he would have beaten Royce. Youd tend to believe it, a trained guy who is much bigger, surely he would have done the business.
