Why does Joe Rogan selectively forget the Mercer-Sylvia fight? MMA vs Boxing

He keeps mentioning Randy Couture vs James Toney fiasco, "forgetting" that Ray Mercer put Tim Sylvia to sleep.

Can someone explain to me why he selectively remembers only one of the fights when discussing Connor-Floyd parallells?
because it wasn't a UFC fight and on top of that a farce. It wasn't even suppose to be a MMA fight but Monte Cox couldn't get a Boxing match ok'ed so they went with this Tim should've listened to Jens.

Just accept it dudes, a 48 year old boxer won in MMA. 48..

A guy who got humiliated in K1. All he needed was one punch with those gloves.

Here, here.

This is MMA upsets are rampant.

If a boxer fights an MMA fighter 10 times that will happen once.

Jogan is so woke
We are all not worthy

It was in minor org. Also Ray was smashed by Kimbo. BY KIMBO.

That's because it was supposed to be a boxing match, but then they couldn't get it sanctioned, at the last minute, so it became an MMA match because that was unregulated in that state. Mercer was pissed off because he thought he was being set up by it changing to an MMA fight.

A) wasn't in the UFC genius..,
B) Sylvia could have beaten him easily but instead of starting with leg kicks followed by a shoot, he stupidly chose to stand and trade shots with a former heavyweight champ.

Oh so only UFC counts? And only non washed out MMA guys? Excuses are endless

Mercer didn't fight Sylvia to prove boxing>mma. He did it probably for some money and for fun.
Mercer said it was just adventure, and he did mma for his son. He also said mma training is really hardcore compared to boxing training.

You have to find it, can't manage timer for this.

"It's the Machida era"
..............
......... (...... Loses the titel to Shogun and gets trapped in mediocrity)

Especially against 400 pound tin Sylvia.
At that point, Sylvia existed to eat and lose.

I dont care what he did it for and what he felt about the training. Your boy couldn't take one punch

And yeah we've seen the great cardio Conor has.. A top MMA fighter

What did you guys think about the Machida era lasting one (highly controversial) fight? Did you feel the impact ?

Rogan knows Zero about fighting or predicting trends

You're correct technically, but that fight didn't have much promotion and was put on by a regional organization. Tim wasn't fighting for the UFC, on a losing streak ,was not near the top anymore. Mercer was ageing and at the end of his career too. The fight was a small in comparison.

Back then many people didn't even know who Tim Sylvia was and others thought he was a very over rated HW who only became champ in the UFC because of lack of competition.

Couture vs Toney , they wer big names at that point ,Randy being one of the biggest in MMA and the entire fight was promoted on a completely different level. MMA and Boxing media were both talking about the fight. There was very little of that before. This was the first BIG fight that many fans got to know or even hear about .. Simple as that
