I know what it is. I've seen stuff just like that before and one of my hobbies is working with sound. I know how producers love to compress everything to shit and turn it to mush and how most of the biggest pop songs since the 50s/60s use the same chords as one another etc etc

I get the science of it but everyone is different and saying music is terrible is still a relative term, and actually rather "oldfarty".

There is absolutely good/great music out there and they are absolutely shoveling shit down our throats.

I've become quite out of touch with pop music ever since I got XM radio a few years back. These days, on the radio, I mostly listen to the "indie station SMU"(becoming more and more pop tbh), the alt rock station, and a couple of the classic rock stations. I have noticed the "brain washing" effect on myself. The song work by 5th harmony, I remember the first time I heard it and I was like how did this shit even get recorded. Eventually it grew on me and I will gladly listen to it all the way through.

As for the loudness portion of the video. I'm one of the weirdos who still buys CDs. Even good bands are jacking up the volume on their music and I can tell because I am constantly have to turn down my speakers more and more, but two albums stand out in the mixing and volume for a good reason. Tool's "Aenima" and The Mars Volta's "Deloused in the Comatorium". For these album I actually have to turn up the volume so I can hear all the nuance in the music. It's sad I have to reference albums from 15-20 years ago for this.

In the end IMO most of the mainstream music is crap, but you can find good stuff with a little bit of work and every once in a while a decent act will poke through to the mainstream. If you find a song that seems like it's a step above the normal nonsense I'd recommend exploring that artist further. Finding their other stuff and then searching out similar stuff. You can find some GREAT music by going down the rabbit hole for an hour or two.

It has never been easier to produce and release music nowadays and there's an ocean of good music out there to listen to for free, you just need to have a bit of curiosity and passion to go look for it outside of mainstream channels.

seems to me that a bunch of people came into this thread, didnt watch the video and just attacked and acted like jerk offs for the sake of it.

Most of the things mentioned in the video, have been well known to music-afficionados for a long ass time however, familiarity and hooks sell.

I dont particualrly care - I'll listen to whatever the fuck I dig and want, and im certainly more on the metal/rock side when it comes to music, but it is interesting none the less.

Probably because these days, it takes 5-10 people to write one very simple song. When it's just a couple of people getting together to create something, whether it's pop, rock, etc. it's more personal and it shows.

The old meme of Bohemian Rhapsody being solely written by Freddy Mercury vs. Beyonce's song is true for just about every modern pop song. Imagine John Lennon and Paul McCartney needing a room full of writers and producers to do what they did for 10 years.

Pop music had its finest hour in the 60s and has been in decline since - proof in the video.

I think pop music hit it's peak in the 80's. The Beatles were pop-rock in the beginning but evolved into full blown alternative by the end of the 60's.

The 60s and most of the 70's had the best rock, but the 80's is when pop music really found it's sound. From MJ to Tears for Fears, Huey Lewis & the News to Madonna, WHAM!, the Cure, Duran Duran, etc. the 80's was amazing. Then you get into the 90's and shit like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys define the new era of "pop". Hanson might have been the only pop band who played their own instruments at the time.
