Would GSP have been able to hold Anderson down for 5 rounds?

GSP had the best top game in MMA, but Silva was very dangerous off his back with both submissions and strikes.

Sonnen held Silva down for 4.5 rounds but GSP was cut open in Bisping's guard.

Interesting to think about

Pffft no. Would GSP get into a cage with Anderson? No.

There’s a reason they never fought...

N it’s not like ufc, Anderson n fans didn’t want that fight

I'm inclined to believe if (Big IF) GSP could have gotten him down he'd be able to keep him down. Silva likes to close his guard with a foot behind the knee and doesn't attempt a lot of sweeps so he'd be stuck in place with his gameplan as well as GSP's top pressure.

GSP would have crushed the Spider.

No shame in that, GSP is the GOAT.

GSP has one of the highest and best fight IQ of all time...with that being said if he did not get into a cage with Anderson Silva it was for a reason...and that reason is doubt... he doubted he could come up with good game plan he felt he could implement and assured victory.

Anyone who moderately followed the sport knew GSP wanted no part of that fight. In an interview he was asked about fighting Anderson and was so thrown off that he stuttered absolutely incoherent gibberish for three seconds straight before finally spitting out "like it... like.. right now like... like right now it makes sense..."

There's no shame in not wanting that fight.

GSP didn’t believe so which is why he ducked Silva for 10 years...

Nope. Anderson would've KOed him stiff. It is funny though, that even the most ardent GSP fanboys see a boring lay n pray decision as the only path to victory for the Canadian, tells a lot about his style (gaming the 10 point system)

No, but seeing how a mediocre but disciplined striker like Bisping handled Silva for the most part, maybe GSP would have survived under the right circumstances.

Jon Jones, Rockhold, Khabib all have better top games ...

Anderson cut Sonnen so bad the doctor had to come in between rounds and clear him to continue. Elbow off his back.

GSP “had” the best top game. Probably true. With the rules now he would be stood up more often for inactivity but back then he could control position.

5 minutes. I think the size difference would negate most of GSPs incredible top game. 5 minutes and a triangle would end it.

And...

Rockhold?! Holy shit no. People need to stop including him with elite wrestlers. He's a kickboxer who is oversized for his weight class.

EDIT: Respectfully, Rockhold of course is a a pretty damn good grappler, he wouldn't be there if he wasn't. I just don't see him having the elite ground game of a Jones or a Khabib.
