It sort of reminds me of Guida/Maynard and Reem/Werdum. Even though the strike count was close, the story of the fight was that one fighter put a lot of effort in avoiding the fight. Dodson fought a smart fight but I dont think any marginal edge in striking made up for his behaviour in the cage in Rds 2, 3, and 4. Compare this to Diaz Condit which is an example of a fight where a fighter backed up excessively but was the deserved winner because he still out landed his opponent by a large margin.
The scoring criteria is pretty vague (not a bad thing) and the application of the criteria is subjective so controversies like this won't be going away anytime soon.
