News Chinese authorities question MMA fighter Xu Xiaodong over Hong Kong protest comments

Yeah China is a Communist dictatorship. They're not liberals ffs.

China isn't communist in anything but name, its one of the most ruthlessly capitalist countries on earth just under a dictatorship.

Indeed I think China is a perfect example of the failiure of neoliberial capitalism to foster democracy. We were told for decades that China opening up to capitalism would shift it towards liberal democracy but it was an utter lie just as it was with several middle eastern nations.

Unfortunately he's not.

The irony and cluelessness of people saying - if bernie gets in this is what is in store.

must be wonderful living with blindfolds on.
USA turning into China under Bernie....sure

lol I come in to bash China for suppressing their own people and this thread just derailed hard. Can't talk anything political on this forum with people this stupid.

Fuckin bizzaro place you live bruh. I've lived in a ton of major cities from east coast to west and never seen that shit. Worst I've seen was out east with all the lil coffee shop revolutionary lib kids.

Met plenty of left leaning people including some that support democratic socialism, or just social welfare programs in general. But most the people I meet are more on the sweden/Denmark brand of socialism, not some authoritarian police state communism shit. Even the more pinko people I know are "rebelling" against all that big govt bullshit.

Literally never met anyone like "yeah send me to the gulags bro!!" I'd be willing to bet that the select few commie larpers are just like I said, edgelords trying to offend people and be edgy. Not anyone to take seriously.

Just seems like idiots are easily seduced into radicalism, the same is true on both sides. Lowest common denominator feels compelled to light tiki torches and march about their hurt feelings.

Granted I will say it's pretty tough at a lot of universities nowadays to be on the far right, but when they're locking little kids in cages tensions run high. Every lil dumbass hopeful college kid not yet defeated by the doldrums of existence still think they can change the world and want to grandstand for whatever they feel is right, but that just seems more like the age group rather than college brainwashing.

Dude you have wasted entirely too many keystrokes bandying crooked words with a witless worm.

Hmm. I aee it as a Communist dictatorship that understands you have to play the game to win. They know they can't win militarily anymore, so decades ago they shifted focus to industrialization and manufacturing. They know they can outproduce us and just wait for our hedonistic culture to fail and swallow itself.

And It's working. Although ultimately I suppose it's a fascist nation more tham anything these days. People want to say it isn't Communist because they trample all over their citizens and don't care, but most communist governments end up like that at some point.

We don't have it all that much better here, a huge chunk of the country are basically indentured servants. But we have more shiny stuff to distract us. No matter the system of government, it seems lile ultimately you end up at fascism once the sociopaths rise to power.

I mean you can argue the very nature of communism is that human failing means it can't exist in its idealised form(although that was more a post industrial idea) the same way the libertarian ideal cannot. In the case of China today though your looking at a government that simply is not left wing by any measurement, its strongly authoritarian but mostly focused on capitalism.

I would actually say the main weakness of the west has been greed, the greedy elite who used Chinese labour to earn big profits either directly or indirectly by depressing the value of labour elsewhere.

Perhaps the unique corcumstances of the post ww2 economy played a role too. We were in a very unique situation with an amazing economy and rapid growth and a rapidly growing middle class.

But all of that lead to this sprawling corporate dystopia we have now. I look at science fiction cyberpunk settings with corporations that control every aspect of life, and think we're really not far from that anymore.

The reaction to the great depression, WW2 and the threat of the USSR generally helped to shift most of the west in a more balanced direction with more socialist ideas being put into practice. By the 80's though with Reagan and Thatcher you saw that started to be eroaded in favour of naked corporate greed being given centre stage again. These days the situation has been warped so far towards the right that someone like Sanders who would have been pretty unremarkable economically 40-50 years ago is now viewed as some kind of communist menance.

This thread went from UFC Discussion to War Room real quick...

It's crazy that merely addressing massive wealth disparity and asking for free community college made him the devil. Corporate America has done a fine job turning americans into shills that celebrate their own exploitation.

I was a particularly big fan of the free community college. There's a massive barrier to entry for education in this country now. I've only been to community college for a couple years but it was incredibly transformative and made me a better person in a lot of ways.

That's because it's a war room thread that just happens to involve a fighter.

The right wing are hypocrites, their own man in Trump admires authoritarian leaders and heavy-handed, brutal regimes. Meanwhile, they criticize Bernie Sanders for being a totalitarian when he's the complete opposite. Don't let clueless boomers water down today's rise of dictatorships with tired, cold war red baiting.

No idea how TF this' UFC, PRIDE, WEC or Strikeforce related

And China is so capitalist they might as well be called the Chinese Capitalist Party.

China isn't communist in anything but name, its one of the most ruthlessly capitalist countries on earth just under a dictatorship.

...wtf? even they classify their economy as a "socialist market economy" but more importantly, their economy is ~40% "state-owned enterprise."

ruthlessly capitalist? lolz, no.

Calling an establishment centrist like Trudeau a leftist like Bernie or Ocasio-Cortez is laughable. Here's a hint; we don't like him either, nor Macron.

He has received no donations from billionaires nor PACs. In fact, the bare minimum requirement to be a Progressive is to refuse any donations from the wealthy elite. They don't like us, and it's for a reason. Keep thinking Trump cares about you though, dear god.
