Aren't S.S. and Medicare programs you don't dare cut?
Would this sink his 2020 re-election?
Elderly people vote, much more so than young folks. Cutting essential programs for them will bring strong opposition.
This sounds like a gift to the Democrats.

Republicans on Capitol Hill say Donald Trump may be willing to cut Social Security and Medicare if he wins in 2020, reportedly describing the potential move as a “second-term project”.

Several senators told the New York Times in a report published this week they spoke to the president about reducing the costs of the federal health care and retirement programs — a move that would likely stir controversy in a presidential election season.

Republicans have said cutting both programs is crucial to reducing the nation’s deficit, which has ballooned under Mr Trump thanks, in part, to the GOP tax bill passed in 2017.

Isnt this what Bush was trying to sell people on?

You're supposed to announce after you win not before.

Let me guess - anonymous sources confirm?

You really think the NYT would falsely claim their sources are Senators?

What about the comment by these two

Senator John Barrasso, a Republican from Wyoming, described the process of cutting the costs of social security and medicare to the New York Times as “best done during divided government”.

“We’ve brought it up with President Trump,” he added, “who has talked about out it being a second-term project.”

Senator John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, also told the newspaper that reducing the costs of the federal programs would require “presidential leadership” and “courage by the Congress to make some hard votes”.

congress was never supposed to dip into them either. how did that turn out?

Surprising no one who has been paying attention. They were angling for this back at the tax cuts.

The only crazy thing is that I wonder if they announced it pre-election to harm Trump's chances of re-election. An elephantine bit of schadenfreude (get it - elephantine).

You know those tax cuts that primarily went to the rich? Yeaaa, we're gonna need to cut your Medicare and Social Security to pay for them, thanks.

Good luck running on that platform, although at this rate Trump's mental faculties might be completely gone by the time we even get to the election.

I just read the part you originally posted. I'll wait for more info.

Oh and they had a shit-ton of anonymous sources about the Trump investigation that turned out to be false.

Bad move it if it happens it will hurt the republicans.

Even this being leaked is not good for him.

Well, if Biden wins he'd please the Republicans too.

Largely depends on who Trump runs against.

If it's Bernie or Warren he'll have to ignore the topic altogether. But if it's any corporate Dem he can hammer away at cutting Social Security and Medicare.

This is a gift on a silver platter for the Dems.
They need to publicize that Trump will cut Medicare and S.S. .

Are trumps base intelligent enough to not vote for him cause of this? I doubt it
