Elections Canadian Federal Election 2019 Thread

Well for one, probably less than four years before we’re back at the polls again.

Other than that, probably not much will happen. With a mandate like this, and the NDP coming in with significantly less power than they expected, coming fourth over all, there won’t be any coalition government.

Expect modest, uncontroversial bills being put out by the liberal government during. Nothing crazy that could bring them down.
What about the campaign plans of the Liberals? Are they scrapped? I mean that's a fairly vague question because there's so much mandate on the table that we could go over.

But what about lowering cell phone bills for instance? Or the student loan plans, etc. When the plan to enact these campaign platforms come to the table, will these issues be fulfilled?

Now that I've had time to digest the results, a few thoughts:

1) Liberal vote share was highly efficient. Conservatives were very inefficient. Winning 68% of the vote in Alberta isn't going to win elections.
2) In the final analysis, the NDP underperformed, despite a late surge. Jagmeet managed to stave off a total collapse but his share of the popular vote was poorer than expected. He came in under 16%, which is pretty weak, frankly.
3) Pipeline might not be dead. The alienation in the prairies is real, and if anyone in the Liberals has half a brain they are going to want to avoid having a real problem with Alberta. They may choose to simply work with the Conservatives on this.
4) Formal coalition is highly unlikely. The Liberals have a strong minority and lots of potential supporters on any issues. They will stick around for 4 years, is my bet.
5) Trudeau and the Liberals are going to own any recession that comes in the next 4 years. People tend to pull rightward when things get shitty. Things are going to get shitty.

Great post. Pipeline is most likely not dead though any new ones, crossing provincial borders, besides the trans mountain won't be built in the future (but that's always been the case). Trudeau can't let it die after paying 4,5 billion for it and a massive economic downturn looms so any major building project is sorely needed. Most likely Trudeau and Cons in Alberta will come to an agreement of some half assed climate plan that'll make both look good. What made me happy about this election was the NDP losing seats and Greens gaining only one I believe (up to a whopping three). Don't worry fellow Albertans, sun will still rise tomorrow morning and we're still a very very wealthy province and we'll figure out a way forward.

Albertans a few years into paying liberal carbon tax: ''Huh...I guess building sprawling cities only navigable by car wasn't the smartest idea after all.''

Lmao, jk, they'll never figure that out, and they'll be left with pre-fab houses they can't give away during the next oil crash. You know, the usual.

In the end we all lose tonight. Quebec is still able to vote in its own interest. Western Canada still pays for Eastern Canada. Black face / brown face boy leads our country into more comedy sketches and overall we all pay more for China and India to buy our country from the inside out. Let the rents rise. Let Toronto collapse, let the millions pour into the spongers. Tonight we celebrate a Canadian tradition.

What do you mean ''we''? American.

So, what reason does any federal party have to invest a single dollar into Alberta at the moment? You can literally spend 4.5 billion on a pipeline just for Alberta, and lose all your seats.

Actually if there was no Bloc, all those frogs that ran from Trudeau wouldn't have had a French option to vote for.

As ludicrous as it sounds, if Bernier had won the PC leadership, we might have won... Of course then we'd be stuck with another French idiot.

The elephant in the room is every Indian in Canada voted for the Indian guy, every French person voted for one of the French guys...

This isn't politics, it's just idiots voting for whoever is their race/ethnicity.

Bernier didn’t even win his own seat and his Rebel Media rhetoric scared a lot of people away from voting in any of his candidates. I don’t think you’re getting just how disenchanted Canadians are with that message

Are you insane?

The liberal gov bought the pipeline to obstruct its construction, they didnt buy it for Alberta.

You sick fuck.

This is just retarded on its face: transmountain was going to abandon the project, which is why the Liberals bought it, and if they really wanted to kill the project, they could have just not appealed the supreme court decision. But also, start work orders went out to contractors months ago. Sit the fuck down, retard.

I never understood why Oil and Gas crowd disliked JT so much. He's obviously pro pipeline and like you pointed out, he bought a pipeline just to keep it going.

Uh guys? Hello? He's doing what you want...what's the problem?
