Prime Fedor vs Ngannou

Kettlebell Fedor is the absolute GOAT.

Also, please, wait for Ngannou to beat anyone relevant before you proclaim him the GOAT... he just beat a nobody, and before that he beat a couple of WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY over the hill fighters.

And before that ?

That's right, there are no Ngannou vs Lewis gifs on Google.... if that your God ?

How do you see this playing out?

I think Fedor takes Ngannou down and pounds him out 75%

25% chance Ngannou lands clean and KO's Fedor

I don't know ... Curtis Blaydes has better takedowns than Fedor and he has failed twice.

Cain also failed but that is washed up Cain so hard to judge that one.

I'd take the meathead to the right (Fedor's left) over both Fedor and Francis. Damn!

In MMA or a street fight, Valuev would lose to both. Dude was a total fraud and one of the worst HW beltholders ever.

He needed corrupt judges to beat Evander Holyfield, who was in his late 40s and shot to shit at the time of their fight.

i think fedor drops him and finishes him with an armbar. hes way too quick

Ngannou has a fucking granite chin. He took a ton of hard counters from Stipe without getting hurt, and just powered through a counter hook from Rozenstruik that hit him behind the ear when he was rushing in with a ton of momentum.

He also has much better TDD than people give him credit for when he's not tired. I seriously doubt that he would get Sylvia'd or Zulu'd.

I'd give Ngannou a slight puncher's chance against Fedor, but the most likely outcome is Fedor surviving until Ngannou slows down and then getting a TD and subbing him.

Most sports the "constant evolution" is true and players now will just be better than players in previous eras 99% of the time.

MMA I don't fucking buy it. What evolution have we seen in top fighters now compared to any other era? The depth exists more now but high end fighters today are not better than high end fighters of any other era.

MMA really is very different from most sports though in that its talent base isn't "home grown" it depends on drawing people in from other sports for most of it, that means the promotion environment can have a BIG impact on the talent base.

Plus of course were not exactly talking decades are we? were talking 10-15 years, I mean someone like Zidane would still be a world class player today, Usain Bolts records still stand, etc.

Ultimately its UFC carny hype, why bother investing in talent if you can convince a lot of the fanbase literally anything is an evolution of the sport?

Fedor’s cast punch would land on Francis before he knew what hit him. KO for sure

Fedor usually looked like this in the cage though:

Standing I think that fight was still fairly good, I mean Fedor was still more of a head hunter and a bit slower but he was effective, Rogers landed one jab but got rocked badly and then KOed.

What was dropping off more was Fedor's grappling, that's what cost him in all his SF loses not the standup, prime Fedor does not let Rogers out from under him in the 1st round like that, he pulps him with GnP.
I totally agree. His grappling was still good, but definitely declining at that time. He had already lost in sambo, and there was a sloppiness (like his kimura attempt on Rogers) that we hadn’t seen in the past from Fedor.

2005 fedor would overwhelm Francis and then take his arm off

2020 fedor would die

Ngannou gets hit with a flurry and then hits the ground where he rolls to his side after getting smashed with fists. It doesnt go 5 minutes. He's too slow for a 28 year old Fedor who was too quick and hits too hard. I dont care what kind of chin he has. He's going to react to it. He might not get knocked out but it would look like he was turning away from a swarm of bees attacking him.

This one is an easy pick for me.

My comment was more about his look/presence. Didn't realize that was him. I don't think he'd ever make weight.

Fedor had issues with Brett Rogers who was like the Poor Man's Ngannou v. 0.001. The same Rogers barely beat Warpath by a controversial decision just months later. And let's not forget Fujita stunning Fedor badly...and Ngannou hits much harder that Fujita and would've swarmed/finished him in the same scenario. But of course the Pride nostalgists don't want to acknowledge such things.
When Ngannou is past his prime 32 fights into his career like Fedor was, then we can talk about the mediocre or sub par fighters Ngannou will have trouble with....... Oh wait, he's already lost to one!

Ngannou is taking advantage of guys way past their prime, with shot chins, who should be retired, or other guys like Rozenstruk and Blaydes, who have also made a name for themselves from beating the same guys.

Ngannou couldn't KO the first legit opponent he faced. Obviously he's always got that punchers chance though.

Fedor was overrated. The Pride fights were fixed. The competition just wasn't that good.

It's actually funny how this has become accepted history for a lot of people just because it somehow became cool to say it. The fact is that Fedor was a monster at all phases of the game. His trips were fucking artwork and he had the best gnp in the history of the game. Period. He generated more torque with punches in his opponents guard than anyone I've ever seen. He didn't need to pass. Francis his hard. Really hard. But Prime Fedor badly exposes holes in his game and takes him down and pounds him out.
