I've heard she'll name her kid Jose Silva Dern, that's a rumor but her transition is almost complete so I wouldn't be surprised

if what you say is true, your situation is totally different...dern's accent changed completely in only 5 years...it's very obvious why she is faking her accent...she sees herself as a brazilian. her way of life is brazilian...so she wants to sound like a brazilian that just learned english....if you've ever listen to brazilian fighters being interviewed after a fight, they sound exactly like dern...but these guys and gals, were born and raised in brazil and have spoken their native language their entire life and only starting learning english for the ufc and to get over more....

so you lived one half of your life in one country, then moved to a different country for the other half...up to this point...that is far far different than dern's....

Well, that's about how long it took for me to Unlearn as well.
But let's not forget: Dern lived in Brazil a ferw years, and married a brazilian guy. Her friends are mostly Brazilian so she probably speaks portuguese most of the time.

Not saying it is not forced, but I am saying it CAN happen. And to this day, I still speak with an accent :)

NOt exactly.
She moved to Brazil and stayed there for a few years.
Then she married a brazilian guy. They probably speak Portuguese at home....

While that's different path than mine, I know ti can happen. I just don't think people would waste so much time trying to train to sound like an immigrant. Especially if they are in US.

I’ve seen people pick up accents in New York City all the time. This is not weird to me. My Puerto Rican friend joined a frat that was predominantly Dominican. Now the dude sounds straight up Dominican and even uses Dominican slang regularly. Again, this shit happens all the time.

Decreased frequency of use can absolutely lead to language attrition I'm calling bullshit on teaching linguistics anywhere but SherbroU

No, I just don't jump to conclusions. Her accent has changed. There is a reasonable explanation for it besides "she's faking it".

I have spoken to multiple linguists who say it's possible, and one Sherdogger claiming to be a linguist who says it isn't.

That same Sherdogger used nationalist rhetoric in the very next post, so I'm skeptical that his opinion is unbiased.
